Mario Golf: Super Rush might not be the biggest game Nintendo launched this year, but this week's Direct proved it has no intention of leaving it behind.
Nintendo's latest Direct is in the books and while what was leaked ahead of time did indeed make the cut, there were a few things announced that no one saw coming. Most notably the reveal of the cast of next year's Mario movie, including Chris Pratt as the red plumber and Jack 🥂Black voicing his nemesisꦉ, Bowser.
Other Mario news coming out of the Direct was the reveal of Mario Golf: Super Rush's biggest update since launch. The Mario sports title's new update is already live and includes two new characters and two new courses. Koopa Troopa and the incredibly speedy Ninji are now part of Super Rush's playable roster, while Blustery Basin and Spiky Palms have been added to the game's list of courses.
Ninji was shown racing past rivals in the trailer and may well be the quickest character added to Super Rush so far. A slightly out-of-the-box addition to a mainstream Mario game, whereas Koopa Troopa has been conspicuous by his absence since launch. As 🌊for the new courses, you can ❀check out the snowy Blustery Basin below, which is sure to be challenging for even the most hardened Mario Golf players.
The beefy update brings a number of other features, tweaks, and changes to Super Rush. You will now be able to alter the difficulty of the game's AI opponents, choosing between Amateur, Pro, and Champ. Some significant changes are also coming to ranked matches starting in October. Special shots will now be off in standard matches, courses will change every 30 minutes as opposed to every 60, and forfeiting all three holes will result in you getting zero points.
Super Rush took a lot of Mario fans by surprise when it was first announced. Although Mario sports games have been a Nintendo staple for a very long time, it had been almost 20 years since the last Mario Golf title on a home console. 2021 has been a big year for reviving old Nintendo IP though. Pokemon Snap was brought back to life in the best possible way earlier this year and has gone on to be a huge success, selling more than two mill🌞ion copies outside of Japan.
