A go-kart company in Japan, whose previous name sounded suspiciously like Mario Kart, has been ordered to pay Nintendo $460,000.

Many gamers dream of being given the opportunity to step inside and live out some of their favorite video games. It's one of the main reasons 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Pokémon GO is so popular. Niantic affords Pokémon fans the opportunity to step out into the real world in order to seek out and catch Pokémon. In Japan, a go-kart company previously known as Maricar attempted to do something similar for 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mario Kart fans.

The company, which is now referred to as Mari Mobility or Street Kart according to , offers tourists the opportunity to drive around the streets of Tokyo in go-karts. We're far from go-kart aficionados, but in o♔ur experience, go-karting is something that should be confined to a specially designed track. Racing them around streets filled with other forms of transport doesn't sound all that sౠafe.

Safety aside, Mari Mobility landed itself in hot water for another reason in 2019. Due to its former name sounding suspiciously like Mario Kart, and its customers being given the opportunity to dress as characters from the iconic racing game, Nintendo felt obliged to take legal action. Nintendo was successful, hence the name change, and Mari Mobility was ordered to pay 10ꦯ million yen ($92,000) in damages.

Mari Mobility decided to appeal that decision, something its owners are probably regretting right about now. That's because, according to , Mari Mobility's appeal attempt was a failure and the damages it now has to pay have been quintupled. The go-kart company now owes Nintendo 50 million yen ($460,000). Seems as if itไ would have been better to pay up and move on.

Mari Mobility continues to operate, it just doesn't offer Nintendo-t🥀hemed costumes to its patrons anymore. Customers can still dress as superheroes, though. The karting company will be hoping Marvel and DC don't get wind of Nintendo's windfall - otherwise they might come a-knocking. Then again, the comic book heavyweights probably aren't as stringent when it comes to others using their creations as Nintendo is.
