Taking the characters we all know and love from the original series and turning up the humour, the Mario & Luigi series has left its own mark on the universe. Letting players kick up their feet and enjoy a more lighthearted story that gets creative with both the battle systems and travel, the di🌄versity doesn't allow for a dull moment while the comical duo save the world.
From teaming up with vastly different versions of classic characters to an entirely new cast, Mario & Luigi lets playe꧅rs skip through different perspectives along the wacky journey. With variety comes competition, and some of these characters shoot to the top of the charts. Presenting a totally different exper✃ience, players should know what personalities to look out for.
10 Toad
barely counts as a playable character honestly, only able to be controlled at the beginning of the game for some introductory setup. Toad always manages t▨o sne🍎ak a few laughs in when they appear in any of the titles.
While꧃ players only manage to control Toad for a little while, it still makes for some comic relief. Seeing Mario in the shower and immediately hiding in the closet makes for one of the funnier moments of the game. It's not enough to compete with some of the more complex characters though.
9 Starlow
Starlow actually controls Luigi while he's in the dream world by prodding and pulling at the sleeping hero's face. Starting o𓃲ut the game with a rocky relationship, her and Luigi form a bond through this cooperation.
Used mainly as a conduit to control Dreamy Luigi's experience, Starlow doesn't offer much in the way of fast paced gameplay. Starlow's essential for success but players never get to test out her Star Sprite powers in battle. She does end up destroying the Dream Stone before Bowser in♛hales it at the finale, though.
8 Baby Luigi𝔉
As far as ꦫgameplay goes, the Baby duo are identical and dependent upon the other. Needing both to perform basically any move they perform, they're connected at the hip and essentially useless without the other. If either Bro one faints, the babies have to carry them. This will hinder their battle abilities and stop the carrier from being able to jump, which is a big problem for the slower Baby Luigi.
7 Baby📖✨ Mario
Mario's younger se🅠lf brought into the future for some support, the infant proves well worth his weight in combat. Although every aspect of his character is Mario mini, helping his brother Baby Luigi at every turn, both babies are integral in defeating the Shroobs.
Baby Mario has the worst HP and defence in the game, complemented by the highest speed. Spending most of the time as a backpack to Mario, he 💯adds damage at certain points in the battle and will take Mario's place in the event that his older self faints. They also help in travel, digging under and jumping over obstacles that were previously impossible.
6 Luigi
The unsung hero, Lui♒gi never gets the respect he deserves because of his ๊nervous temperament. While being dragged around by Mario into dangerous situations doesn't sound like an argument for bravery, he always overcomes and contributes in any way necessary.
His stats♉ are vastly different from Mario, having higher HP and lower attack power. It takes longer to defeat an enemy but without the fear of getting knocked out. Sometimes he'll get scared and limit his mechanics but he thinks of ingenious ways around it.
5 🌟 Bowser🧸 Jr.
A little more likeable than his father, Bowser Jr. sets out on a mission to save the Goombas. Infected with something called the Blor𝕴bs, he tells his dad in hopes of help. Bowser tries to help by crashing a Blorb prevention speech at , only to get his own attacked while he's gone. Now Bowser Jr. has to take charge and defend his home.
Instead of a direct battle, players will get a chance to command the troops as the head of an army, engaging in numerous quick time events and button mashing sessions in 🅠order to turn the tide of the war. A welcome detachment from the regular gameplay, Bowser Jr. offers a fun side journey🐟.
4 ℱ Dreamy Luigi 🐽
Luigi just got an upgrade, seemingl🍒y shedding his nervous skin and becoming more confident in the dream world. This allows him to transform into Giant Dreamy Luigi and 𓆏really get the party started, as his abilities become much more impressive when he's asleep.
Outside of battle, he can activate the Luiginary Works by possessing and using them. When a fight breaks out, Dreamy Luigi can boost Mario's power by combining with him and giving hi🤪m a 50% HP and 20% BP. He can even create little Luiginoids that help out when Mario attacks.
3 Mario
The centrepiece of the series and the one that's the most likely to try and solve the problem, Mario quietly goes through and gets what needs to be done, done. Players will know all his moves and mechanics well if they've played basically any entry in the Mario series as his arsenal never varies.
This can be both a positive and a negat𒈔ive. Familiarity with the controls means there'll be no learning curve and players know what to expect with combat. Those looking for a challenge however might find the gameplay monotonous. This rings especially true for players who've gone through multiple titles in the series.
2 Bowser
Bowser ♚is unique in that play🍎ers effectively get a 3 in 1 combination with him. Mario & Luigi are controlling the bulking body and so the mechanics are completely different. Usually having to fight against the aggro turtle, players finally get a chance to use Bowser's powers for good.
Fire Breath replaces the hammer, incinerating the enemies. Bowser also gains the ability to swallow enemies and have Mario and Luigi beat them up inside his stomach, using that possession wisely. No enemy can make contact with his spiky shell and he can boost different stats when he swallows pieces of enemies. That doesn't even take into account his enormous form that rivals his own castle, where players reaꦍlly get to have some fun.
1 ♚ Paper Mario
Making his debut as a unique character in , he ends up saving the 3D duo from Paper Goombas. Paper Mario actually out Marios Ma♍rio in many ways. Joining th🌄em on their adventure, it's Paper Mario that comes up with the solutions to the new trio's problems.
He's the only character that can use the whole team for Trio Attacks and can make up to 10 copies of himself to up the dam✱age factor. He's more agile than♒ either of the 3D counterparts, but balances out with his low HP & defence. Making copies of himself is a vital part of combat, however, and players can get creative with his varied arsenal.
