The Mario franchise is in a pretty great state right now. Sure, it’s been a while since Super Mario Odyssey came out in 2017 so fans are hungry f🉐or a new🐬 3D entry, but the point is Mario is still a beloved character. However, like most franchises, there is always room for improvement.
For example, there are ideas and genres this series has🍸 never touched officially, but might have at one point. Let's will explore various game pitches over the year based on rumors and speculation along with discussing how these untold ideas could still be used today in any number of potential projects.
10 Boo’s First Adventure
Boos were first introduced as enemies in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Super Mario Bros. 3. From there they have mostly been enemies although some have shared the limelight positively like in Super Mario Kart and Paper Mario. They have not, however, had their own game although apparently was working on one for the DS around 2006. This came to light when art from the p💫roject was revealed this year from an ex-artist at the company, Sammy Hall. The art has since been taken down, but not before ꦯvarious outlets archived everything. It’s time Boo got his own game is the point.
9 Virtual Boy Wario Land 3DS
Jools Watsham, creator of the Mutant Mudds series, created a mock-up of Virtual Boy Wario Land ♔running in full color on the 3DS. For some context, this game is widely regarded as the best thing on the Virtual Boy system. That’s not saying much as there weren’t many games made. Anyway, this was in 2013 and he went further into detail on his rejected pitch✱ to Nintendo on in 2016. The 3DS is all but forgotten now, but it would be cool for Nintendo to revisit these games somehow.
8 Wario Land 5
Speaking of Wario, in 2014 Simon S. Andersen, of D-Pad Studios who made Owlboy, shared a sketch of a new Wario game on Twitter in 2014. This drew attention from the press and fan sites, but Nintendo seemingly didn’t bite. In this tweet he said this. “Here's how I would do a new Wario Land.” For some context, Wario Land: Shake It was the last game in the series as of 2008 fꦐor the Wii▨. It’s about time for a revival.
7 Daisy Land
Joakim Sandberg, of Konjak who created Iconoclasts, responded to Simon’s idea in 2014 with a similar mock-up of his own. This time he portrayed Daisy in an action game, which could seemingly bring back Super Princess Peach.
In 2019 he tweeted to Ninten♊do albeit indirectly with “Gimme Metroid #Nintendo” and “Or let me ma𓄧ke a Daisy game if that's more feasible #Nintendo.” Well, Nintendo?
6 Boss Game Studios’ Mario
wasn’t known for much in their short lifespan between 1994 and 2002. That said apparently either they pitched an idea for a Mario game, or Nintendo did. Either way after looking at a proposed sketch for an idea, Nintendo shot the whole thing down altogether. This was unveiled after said sketch was bought at an auction. It also apparently may have been more adult. Is Nintendo ready now for an M Rated Mario?
5 Telltale’s Wario
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Hotel Mario was a very bad Philips Cd-i Gabe. Because it and the three Zelda spinoffs were also bad, Nintendo canceled two other Mario projects: Super Mario's Wacky Worlds and Mario Takes America. There was also a rumored Donkey Kong game in the works. Most of 🎃these titles were puzzle games with adventure elements. If it worked for Minecraft, maybe Nintendo should team up with Telltale for a new story based adventure game. Wa🐷rio might be a better choice than Mario though.
4 Retro’s Mario Football
Besides working on Metroid Prime, Retro Studios almost made a game starring Mario and pals. Plans fell through to tie it into Mario and it was almost released as a more realistic football game akin to Madden but it too failed to come out. Of all the sports spinoffs𓆉 Mario has starred in, the🅷re has yet to be a stand-alone Mario football game. Now is as good a time as any.
3 Mario On PC
The creators of DOOM, aka iD Software, actually made a PC port of Super Mario Bros. 3 under the pun name: Dangerous Dave in Copyright Infringement. It was a proof of concern to show the game could 𒁏be great on PC,🌳 but Nintendo didn’t like the pitch.
If they are willing to put ou⭕t their franchises on phones now, it might be good to do soღ on PC too. They are already out there via emulation so may as well make some money officially Nintendo.
2 Return To The Arcades
For those unaware, a company called Arcade1Up has been putting out recreations of classic arcade setups for the home environment. Many of these include a complication of titles like one featuring various Capcom arcade classics. So far no Nintendo games have been featured although there was a picture floating around 2018 that showed a Donkey Kong unit. This could have presumably been a prototype which got rejected by Nintendo. They should play ball and get more of their arcade games back out there like the original Punch-Out.
1 Archie Comics
This is not a game and even though this pitch was rejected, there were various Mario comics out at the time. Many of them were 𝓰Japanese only, or just magazine strips. The point is they could have established lore as rich as Sonic’s which Archie Comics is still putting out. It’s never too late to buddy up Nintendo.
