Mario Party Superstars showcased a new trailer during last week's , and it's bringing back five boards from the Nintendo 64 era of Mario Party games. However, GameXplain just pointed out another piece of land that is making a comeback: Mushroom Village.
In the of the game they uploaded yesterday, GameXplain discovered that when you quit the board game or mini-game in the middle of the competition, you have the option to go back to the town square, which is the game's central hub. If you have a keen eye for detail, the picture of the town square on the return card is none other than Mushroom Village from the first Mario Party in 1998.
GameXplain released another video explaining the multifarious differences between the Mushroom Village in the original Mario Party and the one that appears in Mario Party Superstars. For one, the village isn't enclosed by woodland trees, but now it's surrounded by a big open sky, hills, and a mountain in the background, which they deduced is Mt. Minigames. The tiny hill on which the Warp Pipe sits has been elevated with a ladder leading up to it. The buildings around the Warp Pipe got a major upgrade, the Mushroom Shop is getting a huge coin on its sign in lieu of the word "Shop", a satellite dish has been added onto the rooftop of the Mushroom Bank implying there may be some online functionality involved, the Option House has the gears on its roof, and the Minigame House has a book outside.
The boat in the river that took you to Mini-Game Island in Mario Party has turned into a boat that takes you directly to Mt. Minigames. Mushroom Viꦚllage also now has characters hanging around other than Toad, with Shyguy standing outside the Option House and Kamek guarding the Minigame House.
The fact that Mushroom Village is returning to Mario Party Superstars might be the most crucial detail Nintendo left out, even if we got a glimpse of it in the Japanese trailer. We're thankful internet sleuths like GameXplain spotted it and recognized how much it has changed since in the last 23 years.
