At long last, the gaming community has finally gotten a glimpse at Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel game simply titled Marvel’s Avengers for now. That’s not confusing, or anything, right? Hey, if it worked for Sony with Marvel’s Spider-Man then it will probably be okaℱy for this too. Name doubts aside, it looks great.
As a refresher, Square🐼 Enix announced this game all the way back in January 2017. With this reveal was a teaser trailer showcasing a ruined, what looked like, SHIELD HQ. There was also a shot of Captain America’s shield. It was not a lot to go on and it’s been kind of weird to have them be quiet for over two years and for them to finally share news now. Again though, the wa♋it was worth it. This is everything fans have to go on until next year.
10 Choose Your Hero
Whatever🤪 platform one buys this game on, at the start, they can choose to play as Black Widow, Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, or Thor. Missing one? Yeah, for whatever reason Hawkeye was not revealed, but that may 🥂change as time goes on. It’s also fun to note that players can customize their characters in some fashion. Exactly how that works remains to be seen.
9 Multiplayer
There will be multiplayer in the game with drop in, drop out co-op of up to four players. That’s not in the story campaign, or at least not the main story. Square Enix, or Crystal Dynamics really, whomever, was pretty coy about this. As🧜 it stands now, multiplayer will be its own separate mode. It could turn out that it is indeed the main story but separately produced. Again, there’s not a lot to go on.
8 The Studios Involved
Speaking of Crystal Dynamics, there are four companies involved with this monstrous undert♍aking. Crystal Dynamics is the lead while Eidos Montreal, Crystal Northwest, and Nixxes Software are also helping out in some regard. If there wꦅere indeed two separate modes this would make sense as it seems like a great undertaking. More studios doesn’t mean it will turn out better though so it’s a toss up if this is good, or bad news.
7 The Date
This game has been teased and in the dark for two years now before resurfacing. The big question is when will it release? At almost a year later, Marvel’s Avengers will 🃏launch on May 15, 2020. That’s another long time to wait, but given that Square Enix announced a concrete date and not a window, hopefully, this means the team is confident they can pull things together in that timefram𓂃e.
6 The Platforms
The next question to coincide with that date is to announce the platforms. As of now, it will launch on PS4, PC, Stadia, and Xbox One. It’s sad to see no Nintendo Switch version, but they do have their own exclusive Marvel game, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, which is due out soon.
That&r🍌squo;s just a month away! Who needs Marvel’s Avengers on Switch with that? It will be a nice gift to tide Marvel fans o✱ver until next year.
5 Exclusive PS4 Content
With four platforms announced as of right now, one might wonder what the best version will be. While the PS4 might not be THE best in terms of quality, as any of the other pla🐈tforms may prove to be more powerful, it does have one key advantage. Square Enix has signed a deal to generate exclusive content for the PS4 including Hank Pym as a playable character first on PS4. There will also be a Beta on PS4 first as well. That sounds like just the tip of the iceberg.
4 Free Updates
One of the hottest things to announce at a game ♐reveal is in regards to microtransaction🌃s and updates. Proclaiming a game will have free content updates and no pay to win models is a “win” for gamers, but it’s not always as good as it sounds. Despite their promise onstage, the game will still have microtransactions, which will likely be cosmetic only. That’s good, but the way it was discussed was, again, slightly misleading. One should always assume there is an asterisk in someone’s speech whenever something is labeled as “free” and such.
3 The Story
Immediately after celebrating a new Avengers headquarters opening in San Francisco, all heck breaks loose when evil forces cause their new base’s core to explode. After this, the teaওm is banished, labeled as traitors, with the real start beginning five years later when the team must reassemble in order to stop a greater foe.
It sounds 🦂a lot like Civil War meets Endgame from the MCU, but then again those films borr♍owed from the comics first. Comics are a circular narrative of repetition anyway.
2 The Cast
Nolan North will play Tony Stark. One might know him for his role as Nathan Drake in Uncharted. Troy Baker will be Bruce Banner who some may know from inFAMOUS Second Son. Laura Bailey will honor the role of Black Widow and she is set to star in Gears 5 this year as Kait. Jeff Schine will play Captain America. He’s not as prolific as the others, but he did play Javier in the third season of Telltale’s Walking Dead. Finally, Travis Willingham will play Thor and his acti🐼ng career is too big to get into. Everyone has 🔯a massive IMDb, to be frank. They may not be AAA Hollywood types like Chris Evans, but they are great voice actors in their own right.
1 Not Based On The MCU
The most important thing to take away from this event is that this game is its own thing. That is to say, it does not draw likenesses, or story elements from the MCU. It does borrow from the comics, slightly, but like Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 last year, Crystal Dynamics is out to put a stamp on the greater Marvel universe. How they will play🐽 with the source material will be interesting, to say the least.
