How To Beat Spider-Man
While a lot can be written about Peter's individual attacks, we believe the best recommendations for this particular Spider-Man 2 boss fight are brief ones. That is to say, our overarching thought process for all of Peter's attacks against Miles is to evade them at all times whenever possible. It's not that parrying is never possible. It's more that Peter tends to leave himself open just long enough after you dodge even his best attacks for you to come in s♛trong and get some blows on him.
Heck, that's basically how the fight starts. Right off the bat, Peter will lunge toward Miles, so jump out of the way and strike, bearing in mind that between strings of cutscenes, this will happen a second time, and then finally a third (though the third time usually involves Peter using his tendrils instead, coming 😼in from higher up ꦬin the air).
If we're convinced it's best to catalog all of your foe's strikes as 'avoid', then the real strategy in this battle rests not in handling Peter's attacks, but knowing which attacks to use in return. We've encountered great success with the following three approaches:
- First, try to corner Peter against a wall when possible. Similar to Kraven, you can get plenty of hits on him, albeit not quite to the same extent - whereas with Kraven, we nearly ripped off his entire final health bar, Peter will recover after about a third of his. Importantly, you can juggle Peter against the wall even in the air; he seems to get 'stuck' against the building for several seconds either way.
- Miles' ultimate, Mega Venom Blast, can shred a lot of health off of Peter. The key is to time your usage of this such that you're both as close as you can get, and with Peter as exposed as you can get him. Plainly, you just need to save Mega Venom Blast for when Peter's recovering from lunging at Miles. Zero in on him and do some real damage.
- The bell. The fight even ends on this note narratively, so you can bet it's highly effective. When Peter fought Kraven, you had to help him keep that bell quiet with your webs. As Miles, you need to strike it with webs and/or physical hits to stun Peter. If you can time Mega Venom Blast while Peter is stunned, you're really cooking with fire.
Again, much can be said about the ins and outs of Symbiont Spider-Man's arsenal. But much like the story here is about Miles Morales getting through to his mentor and friend, it's not about what the enemy is capable of doing. It's all about you, Miles, circumventing it all while doing what must be done.
