Lots of BioWare fans praise Mass Effect 2 as the best in the trilogy. It was developed without🍷 the infamous 🐈crunch that plagues the gaming industry, created new and i𝄹nteresting characters for the player's squad while bringing back a few favourites in 🐈cameos, and came with a fascinating new villain.
It's also incredibly tough compared to its predecessor - in more ways than just combat. But for players looking to at least nail the combat side of this game () weapon upgrades are an essential part of fleshing out Shepard's build. At this point, the upgrades weren't as diverse as they'd be in Mass Effect 3 or Mas🍃s Effect: Andromeda, but there are still some clearly s𒀰uperior choices.
10 Assault Rifles - Tungsten Jacket 𓂃
Assault rifles are a pretty basic weapon in Mass Effect - lots of different playstyles and gamers can make use of them effectively. Despite their simplicity, they can still hold th𒀰eir own and c🐬ompete with the best weapons in the francise.
This Tungsten Jacket upgrade will provide the player🥀 with an added 25% penetration (damage against armor, shields, and biotic barriers). In order to unlock it, Shepard needs to invest in two of the upgrades which increase assault rifle damage first.
9 SMGs - Microfield Pulsar 🔴
The Microfield Pulsar upgrade is one that applies to the player's submachine guns. These weapons send a spray of🧔 bullets in a wide area to damage groups or jumpy NPCs, and the upgrade adds 10% more damage to their shots. recreated the weapon mod as seen above.
It can even be stacked, if Shepard can find all the different ones hidden in the open world. Several are found on recruitment missions, some in personal offices, and a few in DLCs. The more they can find, the better their chaotic hail of bullets will fall on those who d🔯are challenge them.
8 Heavy Pistol - Sabot Jacketing 🔜
Heavy pistols are an underrated gun - they can be incredibly useful in lots of ways for the player, especially if they dedicate the time and energy into upgrading their favourite one. The Sabot Jacketing upgrade is one that is also unlo𓆉cked after Shepard invests in two upgrades to improve the pistols' damage.
It's worth it, though, since Sabot Jacketing will increase damage against armour by 🥀50%. Armour is a real pain to get rid of in some circumstances and with some builds, so it's nice t⛎o have this pistol hanging around.
7 ♊ Heavy Weapons - Ammo Capacity
Heavy wepons create some of the best moments in Mass Effect 2. Since they're so massive and consume so much power, it's only viabღle to use them in some situations - pulling one out during a fight is an incredible feeling!
The𝓡 Ammo Capacity upgrade will increase how long the player can rain gunfire (o💟r whatever it may be) down on their enemies by adding 15% ammo capacity. The best part? This can be stacked up to seven times, if you're willing to put in the time to find them all. Fair warning: one of these upgrades is hidden in .
6 Shotguns - Microphasic Pulse 🅺 🍷
When Shepard is weilౠding a Shotgun, it's not generallyꦛ because they want a lot of range or accuracy. Rather, it's so that they can do a lot of damage up close, probably coupled with a few of their abilities.
This upgrade, the Microphasic Pulse♚, is for the people who prefer to go on the offensive with a shotgun: it provides an extra 50% shield piercing. Itꦇ's acquired when the player unlocks two upgrades that increase their shotguns' damage.
5 ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ SMG♔s - Heat Sink Capacity
The sub machine gun has "machine gun" i▨n its name for a reason! Players using one of these weapons are looking to do a lot of damage quickly. 🦹They might not be effective against shields and such, but the SMGs will substitute quality for quantity.
This upgrade, the Heat Sin💛k Capacity, adds 50% extra rounds to the player's arsenal. For a weapon where the accuracy and damage-per-shot is low, an upgrade like this is essential. Players can unlock it after investing in three upgradesဣ to boost the SMGs' damage.
4 ♑ Assault Rifle - Targeting VI
There's a reason that assault rifles aren't sub machine guns. Players don't necessarily need their assault rifle to be a snipe🌳r rifle, but a little more accuracy for mid-range combat can go a long way. The Targeting VI upgrade improves the accuracy of these guns - not just for the player, but for their entire squad.
The VI part means "virtual intelligence," which is basically a jump down fr🌸om ꦜAI ("artificial intelligence"), so it can't think by itself, but it sure can help you point a gun.
3 ꦕ 🥃 Sniper Rifles - Tungsten Sabot Jacket
With an epic sniper on the squa🥂d like Garrus, why not invest in some sniper rifle bonuses? The Tungsten Sabot Jacket is an upgrade that increases sniper damage by 50% against armour. This bonus is applies to the entire squad.
Unl๊ock🐷ing it will require the player to invest in 3 upgrades for sniper rifles that improve their damage. Snipers working at long-range combat don't have the benefit of using an ability or other weapon to drain armour and shields and the like - making this upgrade perfect for them.
2 Sh♏otguns - Thermal Sink
Shotguns are a beloved weapon in tons of video games, but all those vid𝓰eo games often share a common problem: shotguns have limited amm🤪o. It makes sense, of course, so fans who enjoy realism in their games probably won't mind.
For others, they use upgrades like this one, the Thermal Sink, to extend the time between reloads or hunting down more ammo. This bonus adds 100% extra rounds, and it's another o❀ne that affects the entire squad, not just Shepard. Players will unlock it after researching t🌜hree upgrades for shotguns' damage.

Fans of first- or third-person shooters are probably familiar with the satisfying thunk of a headshot. Mass Effect 2 is no different. If the player's team is built well enough to support them, S♑hepard can stay at long-range and take shots at the enemy from there.
If that's your style, you'll want the Combat Scanner upgrade. It increases sniper rifle🍷s' hꦆeadshot damage by 50%, and is unlocked after the player gets 3 upgrades for the sniper rifles' regular damage.
