There wasn't a whole lot to learn from the latest 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mass Effect teaser, released to celebrate this year’s N7 Day, which was just a character - possibꦓly but probably not Liara - walking down a corridﷺor in what might be the Citadel. In fact, the most important piece of concrete information might be the fact it is codenamed Epsilon, and that whoever is there is rocking that jacket. This almost certainly won't be the official name, but the fact it's the fifth letter of the Greek alphabet means this is Mass Effect 5; there was some debate that it could be Mass Effect 4, with Andromeda tagged as a spin-off, similar to how 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched between 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Spider-Man 2.

But look a little closer, and the title makes a lot more sense. In the poster that accompanied the trailer, we see some characters in what appears to be a nightclub. I know I'm saying 'might', 'appears', and 'could' a lot here, but I cannot overstate how little we are given to work with. However, there could (sorry) be some carefully laid hints in the nightclub - amongst the patrons, there appears (sorry again) to be a geth and an angara. Neither of these being there initially makes much sense.

Take a look at posters we've had for Mass Effect 3 so far

As for the geth, we know Mass Effect 5 is a continuation of the Shepard trilogy. While it's unclear if it's Liara in the trailer (my money says it's not), she was in the last trailer, confirming her reappearance here. It has been speculated that Garrus and Tali will return too, but there's no official word on this. Liara's presence forces BioWare into a corner. At the𝐆 end of the trilogy, we faced a drastic choice - destroy the Reapers, control the Reapers, or synergise with the Reapers. All three have major repercussions on the geth and the entire universe.

The ending choices might have been around the Reapers, but they impacted all synthetic life. So with the Destroy ending, the geth cease to exist. With the Control ending, the fate of the geth in particular is not very well explained, but given their entire arc is about fighting back against indentured servitude, Control offers some tricky moral quandaries. Synthesise meanwhile merges the very idea of organic and synthetic life, and while that might make for a compelling ending, it's a very complicated idea to sell new players on.

Mass Effect has 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a secret fourth ending, though it is wildly unpopular with fans.

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Destroy always made the most sense, even if that meant forcing long-time players to live with an ending they didn't choose. Other than not making a direct sequel (which would have been the smartest option), Destroy is the only one that wipes the slate clean. The previous poster showed a crater left when a Geth Reaper fell from orbit, implying Destroy was the way forwar꧒d thꦿe team had chosen. This poster also featured two splodges that may have been Garrus and Tali, and if they return, that's the devs taking the wheel again - 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:both can die in Mass Effect 2 while Tali can also sacrifice her🍌self in Mass Effect 3.

And yet the geth are back, and seem to be freely wandering the world. They're also wearing a weird robe, which might be a religious thing or might just be the drip. Next to this geth is an angara, another race out of time and place.

At the far table in the centre, a geth stands to the right as an angara loiters on the left

The angara were the single new race intro♌duced by Mass Effect Andromeda, native to the Andromeda galaxy (and thought to have never left it). Mass Effect Andromeda starts in between Mass Effects 2 and 3 in terms of chronology, but given that it opens with a 600-year voyage in cryo-sleep, it quickly becomes a game set in the distant future.

This leads to a few questions - firstly, when is Mass Effect 5 set? If it's a follow-up to Andromeda, most of the characters (and a lot of the repercussions) from the original trilogy will be long gone. Liara is 105 when Mass Effect begins and her species live to be 1,000, so she would still be around, but Garrus and Tali have a lifespan of 150 years and 120 years respectively, so if it does follow Andromeda, that wasn't them in the poster.

Liara's reveal in the 2020 Mass Effect Trailer

Then there's the question of how an angara got there in the first place. Nothing in Andromeda suggests the angara are looking to head across to the Milky Way. So why did they, and how? Is it just this one, or will there be colonies of settlers in the game? Or, conversely, is the game set in Andromeda, with the rest of the characters in the poster those who came over with Ryder? If that's the case, what's with the Geth Reaper poster, and why is Liara there? Then, outside of the game itself, why would BioWare follow up the least popular game in the series rather than the beloved and recently remastered critically acclaimed trilogy?

I'm left with more questions than answers, but at least that's something. After the teaser trailer alone, there was nothing to go off. The poster may be confusing, but it has reminded me why I love Mass Effect so much in the first place.
