In case you've been thinking of booting up your PS3 and playing Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3, don't be shocked if you can't find them on the storefronts. Konami has announced that the pair of games will be temporarily unavailable on digital storefronts due to the renewal of the licences for the historical footage used in the games.

"We are currently working on renewing the licenses for select historical archive footage used in-game, therefore, ♏we have made the temporary decision to begin suspending the sale of METAL GEAR SOLID 2, METAL GEAR SOLID 3 and all products that include these games from digital storefronts globally starting from November 8th, 2021," said an announcement on the .

The developer🐷 has not given a specific date at which they will return to storefronts but has asked players for their patience and understanding as it tries to bring these products back as soon as possible. License renewal, especially for historical footage, is not an easy process. There are multiple hoops to jump through and licences often tend to change hands.

This is further compounded by the fact that the license deals for the footage in Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 must have been signed a long time ago and a number of factors could have changed since then. It's also unclear if this will affect those who already have the game installed onto their systems.
