We all know168澳洲幸运5开奖网: Dave the Diver i🎐sn&rsquoꦉ;t an indie game by now. Developer Mintrocket is a department of multi-billion dollar behemoth Nexon, and the benefits from that help budgets, promotion, and much more. The other thing we know about 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dave the Diver is that it slaps.
Dave the Diver is one of the best games I’ve played all year. Fr🐠om the beautiful pixel art presentation to the disparate minigames that somehow work perfectly in tandem with one another, it’s an exotic fever dream of sushi-serving madness, maximalist to the extreme. For Mintrocket’s next game, however, the developer is opting for the gritty realism of PvPvE amid a zombie apocalypse in Nakwon: Last Paradise.
It’s not out of the question for developers to pivot their priorities following their first game, but Dave the Diver isಌ an unmitigated success. It’s being floated in Game of the Year discussions and has been nominated for a Game Award, for goodness sake! You don’t just pivot away from that.
Excep🐻t Mintrocket does. You’d have expected something else akin to Dave the Diver as a follow up; maybe even DLC or a sequel. Just another game in a similar style. You know, a loveable pi🐽xel art scamp with a jolly protagonist to slap on the box. Mintrocket decided to eschew that in favour of the grittiest, dirtiest zombie game since Joel and Ellie.
Note: Dave the Diver did get a 🥃hefty update with some new missions earlier in the year, but I’m talking about sequels or major DLC here
Mintrocket just showed off 22 minutes of gameplay footage for Nakwon: Last Paradise, and I just don’t know what to m🎀ake of it. If it was Sledgehammer or Naughty Dog offering me this plate of steaming, infected goodness, ♛I’d lap it up. But it’s Mintrocket. Where’s the Mako Shark sushi I ordered? Why is it… green?
I think it’s worth noting that it looks pretty polished and while a vertical slice ahead of the pre-alpha test isn’t indicative of how finished the rest of the game is, Dave the Diver only fully released this summer. Mintrocket must have two divisions of d🃏evelopers working on these titles simultaneously, and no amount of early access feedback could have told it quite how popular its debut title was going to be. You can only trust the echo chamber so much be🌜fore you’re listening to your own voice projected back at you.
Nakwon’s movement is reminiscent of a stealth-based PUBG. PvPvE action suggests it&rs🦩quo;s going after the Rust audience, which is a smart choice. And with hardcore survival mechanics, this is a game that, like Rust, I can see being a runaway hit on streaming platforms. With the goodwill from a much-loved debut behind it, Mintrocket🔯 can do whatever the h*ck it wants.
That’s not to say I don’t think it’ll return to Dave the Diver or a game of its ilk. I wonder if one team will be focused on getting Nakwon out the door and then maintaining it rather than moving on to something new. This would potentially make Mintrocket a very sustainable developer, should Nexon decide to pull its funding at short notice. Whatever the Nakwon te🐻am does next, however, I don’t see many Dave the Diver developers being pulled over to the zombie title. They could work on something new, potentially the Dave🥀 the Diver follow-up we all expected.
Now we’ve got all that conjecture out the w🌟ay, I want to commend Mintrocket for having the guts to pivot so hard away from the game that put it on the map. Fair play. Not many developers, of any size, have the confidence to do 𝐆that. But off the back of one very successful deep sea diver, Mintrocket can do whatever it likes.
