Monster Hunter Rise - New Monsters

The biggest new additi𒐪on to any new Monster Hunter game are the monsters themselves, and Monster Hunter Rise has already shown off several of them in its debut trailer and the Mini Direct. Here are the creatures we know about so far:

  • Magnamalo : ♋The main villain of Monster Hunter Rise is a Fanged Wyvern called Magnamalo, whose abilities are being kept under wraps by the developers. Its appearance seems to be a mix of Glavenus and Gore Magala, and it can slay other monsters with its massive tail.
  • Aknosom: This is a Bird Wyvern that attacks hunters with its feather crest, which it can alter into the shape of diffe🍸rent weapons. It can also spit fire in order to damage hunters and knock them off their🧸 feet.
  • Great Izuchi: This is another Bird Wyvern, which always hangs out in groups of three with other small monsters and they take on hunters together. Learning how to defend against several attacks at once is the key to defeating this beast and its allies.
  • Tetranadon: is an Amphibian that resembles Tetsucabra from the older games. It uses the unusual tactic of eating rocks to increase its mass, before launching itself at the hunter. Its attacks change depending on whether it has swallowed any rocks or not. Tetranadon will fight any Azuros it comes across, in what appears to be an expanded version of the mechanic from the earlier games where monsters would fight each other. The developers promised to reveal more details about this element of the game in the future.

Monster Hunter Rise - Mounts & Mobility

The Monster Hunter series has prominently featured cats throughout its run, with the Felyne Palicos acting as staunch companions to the hunters. Monster Hunter Rise is going in a new direction, as it will be adding canine mounts to the series, called Palamutes. Players can ride a Palamute into battle and use them to quickly scale cliffs. Your stamina doesn’t decrease while riding a Palamute, so you can easily race across the battle📖field without needing to chug Dash Juice, as was often the case in the older🌠 games. You can also use some items while riding on a Palamute, so you won’t hold back the group while doing some pre-battle buffs.

Palicos are still a part of the game, which means players have a choice regarding their companions. The Palamutes can fight monsters and be used as mounts, while Palicos are support-type companions, who can use healing items and distract the enemy. You can take two companions into☂ battle and they can be any mixture of Palamute and Palico, except in multiplayer, where you are restricted to one.

It’s not just the mounts that are more agile in Monster Hunter Rise, as the developer confirmed that the title refers to the mobility of the hunters themselves. In Monster Hu𓄧nter Rise, hunters can run across walls and perform massive leaps across wide spaces. The hunters also have access to a device called the Wirebug, which is a mixture of a grappling hook and Spider-Man’s webshooters. The enhanced mobility of the hunters when combined with the Wirebug means that maps have opened up to a degree never before seen in the series, which is a huge step off from the days when players could just barely jump off steep cliffs. The Wirebug can also be combined with weapons to perform new types of attacks, as well as making it easier for players🎶 to close the gap on monsters. This means players who use slower weapons (like the hammer) will be able to enter the fray a lot easier.

Monster Hunter Rise - Seamless Map and Base

The biggest new addition to Monster Hunter Rise for those coming from the pre-World games is the seamless map. In the old Monster Hunter games, each map was compos♕ed of connected rooms that were separated by loading screens. Monster Hunter Rise uses a single massive map, with no load times at all.

One of the new areas shown during the Mini Direct was the Shrine Ruins, which has broken buildings and shattered monuments strewn across the battlefield. Hunte🗹rs are able to explore these locations during missions at their own pace, without worrying about load times or being separated from the rest of the group for too long, since it’s all one location.

The player’s base is Kamura Village, which will contain all of the facilities a hunter needs, like item shops and a smithy. The developer has put a lot of focus on the characters in the village and their personality, which is something that was severely lacking in the older games. Kamura Village is undওer threat from something called the “Rampage”, but we don’t know the details of what that means, other than the fact that it will probably involve monsters.
