was my entry into the franchise. Well, technically a Wii U demo for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was. I ended up giving it a pass after that demo because I couldn't beat the monster in time no mattﷺer how much I whaled on it. World tempted me to give the series a second shot with its promises of story and newcomer-friendly mechanics. And when I first started and created my character, I was sucked in. But by the end, something wasn't sitting right with me.
I could actually kill monsters in World, but the story seemed set on justifying why it's cool that I did. It made sense at first, like stopping a raging beast from terrorizing my home base.🍷 Sorry, Anjanath, but it's survival of the fitಌtest. As the story went on, however, several characters declared their love of nature. There is some truth there–an overhunting predator can ruin an ecosystem–but it still felt odd to slaughter the silly Kulu-Ya-Ku and then hear a speech about how man and beast must coexist.
Part of the issue is that the human characters are invaders. They set out on an expedition to the New World, then decided to set up shop and clear out any monsters in their way. That undermines the whole message of coexistence and natural balance. Meanwhile, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Monster Hunter Rise just tells you "Monsters are stampeding towards our village, ple✤ase stop 🍸them."
In some ways, the lack of story in Monster Hunter Rise makes it easier to turn my brain off while I beat on some beasts. Unlike in World, I'm not invading. I'm defending my home from certain doom. The new game mode is literally about fending🤡 off a rampaging herd of🌳 monsters using all the bombs and siege weapons you can build﷽. No meditations on balance, no hugging trees as you're knocking them down. J🙈ust good old-fashioned monster hunting.
Maybe my colleague Eric Switzer was right. Maybe Monster Hunter is at its best when it just shoves giant monste♓rs and over-the-top action in your♑ face. I do miss the scale of Monster Hunter World and the way it tried to create ecosystems with its maps. I also miss the cinematic cutscenes and detailed visuals of a more powerful console. But I think I'm ok with the series staying aw🗹ay from contemplations on the relationship between man and nature. At least while I'm still killing hordes of monsters to make a neat outf🃏it.
