There are 29 monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, an🌜d even though they're not all new, some of the fan-favorites make appearances, so there's a monster for every taste! Here's all that you need to know about the best monsters in the game.

7 Uth Duna

The Red Leviathan

Uth Duna fiercely attacking a hunter in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The apex predator of the Scarlet Forest opens this list; its cool scales and translucent fins make Uth Duna one of the best designs i💮n the whole game, and its combat prowess brings a challenge in the early stages of the game, proving to be a hard fight if you're ♕not prepared.

However, as it's one of the first monsters in the main story, it gets quickly eclipsed by some cooler🅷 specimens. Better luck tomorrow, less spongy Royal Ludroth.

6 Rey Dau

The Blue Thunder

A Rey Dau stands looking at the Hunter in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Rey Dau is a violent monster that ♋lives as the apex predator of the Windward Plains; its yellow-scaled body goes very well with its blue lightning powers, creating a color combination that goes along withꦜ its menacing horns and wings.

This monster is a hard rival to beat, but once you learn the fight properly, it doesn't bring any real suprise in subsequent attempts, which is quite a letdown, especially coming from such a cool designed monster. Eh, at least the weapons areꦇ great for the endgame.

5 Jin๊ Dahaad

The Frozen Behemoth

Jin Dahaad walking menacingly in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The first time you face this gigantic powerhous🌌e of a monster, you can't even achieve a victory, and instead, you only get away with your life ♈intact after repelling it. However, once you reach High Rank, you are more prepared to challenge it; man, it does not disappoint.

It's not just the rusty-scaled design or even the size of Jin Dahaad that makes the fight great. Every attack move in its arsenal, from ice beams to massive ꦓstorms, makes you feel like your Hunter is quite close to face the music, and it's only after be🐼ating it several times, that you grow comfortable enough with fighting this juggernaut.

4 Xu Wu

The Guardian Hunter

Xu Wu creepily standing alone in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Reader, I will admit that when this abhorrent creature snatched me during the main story, I almost screamed in sheer terror; you cannot blame me for that, and I resent any accusations of cowardice. I dare you to go and fight it w♛ithout knowing what you're going to find.

Xu Wu might be the grossest yet coolest monster to ever show up in this series; it has a callus near its brain-looking head that emulates a creepy smile, and yet, it isn't, as the true mouth rests on top of its head. Truly an abomination of nature, and its very existence is a mistake. W🔯e stan.

3 Rathalos

The King Of The Skies

The Rathalos flying at the Hunter in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The King Of The Skies Rathalos comes back, and what can I tell you? You can't beat the classics, c'mon. Its red scales accompany the fiery attacks that you'll suffer in this battle, sporting a pair of leathery wings to go along with them and with a tail and talons that will tear you apart like you're a .

Surprisingly, this wyvern stays as one of the coolest and most iconic designs in the whole series, even more than two dec𒁏ades after its first appearance.

2 Gorꦅe Magala

The Frenzied Beast

Gore Magala standing towards Fabius in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The triumphant return of the Frenzy Virus incarnated comes in the form of a post-game story, not as meaty as the Low Rank one, but it has its fair share of cutscenes and callbacks to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. The coo▨lest one, perhaps, is the opening song of the MH4U, hidden in the fight theme song, which made me smile and think about my favorite game in the series.

About Gore Magala itself, and even though we've seen it in Sunbreak, it's nice to witness in its full might a powerful💃 monster like this, especially on the scal🌃e that Wilds uses. A classic monster that can still be a nightmare to fight against, even for seasoned players, Gore Magala remains an all-time badass.

1 Arkveld

The White Wraith

The crown 💮of this list, unsurprisingly, goes to the White Wraith, Arkveld, not only because of its white scales, the chainblades that it uses to attack and hold onto things, or even its cool-looking dragon attacks, but because this monster, even as a concept, is fundamentally awesome.

As an artificial creation that represents the hubris of a fallen civilization, the Guardian Arkveld struggled to come to terms with its very own existence, putting the entirety♋ of the Forbidden Lands at the very real risk of complete annihilation. What's cooler is that after you slay it, its offspring succeeds in reverting to the original monster species, bec🐈oming even more powerful!
