The wound𒁃 system makes this task slightly easier, letting you evaluate a monster's weak points and exploit them. The best hunters will priori𓆏tize creating and destroying wounds in order to finish hunts quicker, as well as harvest additional resources from enemy encounters.

What Are Wounds?

Wounds are tears in a monster's hide that you can strike with your weapons to deal even more punishment (signified by orange damage numbers in contrast to the normal yellow). They are opened by continuously striking the same body part, creating an exposed weak point. You can identify wounds on a monster rather easily, as they generally appear as large lacerations in their skin.

If you're having a difficult time finding wounds you inflicted on a monster, hold the Left Trigger to enter Focus mode. Doing so will highlight any openings you've made with a red aura, lettin🃏g you know where to strike.

How To Destroy Wounds

Once you have created a wound, you should attempt to destroy it as fast as you can. Doing so will not only result in a massive blow to enemy health, but also stagger your prey, letting you and your party attack them even more while they ꩵwrithe helplessly.

Wounds can be destroyed by using your basic attacks, but it's much more efficient to use a Focus Strike. Focus Strikes can destroy a wound with a single blow, letting you cripple monsters and finish hunts much qꦍuicker.

To perform a Focus Strike, simply get in range of your prey and enter Focus mode. Aim at a monster's wound, and then hit the Right Bumper to attack. If you're successful, the wound will be destroyed, resulting in a burst of damage and the moꦫnster being temporarily stunned.

Focus Strikes are particularly important if you're farming a monster for parts; exploiting wounds not only hurts your prey, but also drops additional loot for you, letting you harvest resources at a faster rate.
