A listing on the Xbox Store has revealed that 's in-game currency, Dragon Krystals" can be used to purchase skins, gear, colour palettes, "and more".
Back when Mortal Kombat 1 was first revealed, , an in-game currency that sounded similar to Mortal Kombat 11's Time Krystals. Although the currency was confirmed to be in the game and indicated some kind of progression and rewards system that could have money put into it, nothing was confirmed by Warner Bros. at the time.
Now, , we finally officially know what these Dragon Krystals will be used foღr. The early-access version of Mortal Kombat 1 appears to have gone live on the Xbox Store, which means that all of the DLC associated with it has gone l🔯ive, including Shang Tsung, the Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage, and a bonus amount of the in-game currency.
. It reads, "This pack includes 1250 Dragon Krystals (In-Game Currency) to purchase cosmetic features for your fighters such as skins, palettes, gear, and more". It's not entirely clear what the "and more" part of that means since we don't know too much about Mortal Kombat 1's customisation options, but it can be assumed that it could refer to taunts, brutalities, and character introductions.
As of the time of writing, we don't yet know how much these Dragon Krystals are going to be sold for, as the only listing on the Xbox Store for them currently is the one that's attached to the Premium Edition of Mortal Kombat 1. For reference, , which could be the case here too.
NetherRealm has been fairly quiet about the customisation and gear systems available in Mortal Kombat 1, , which rewards players with skins and colour palettes. This does seem to suggest that there will be more depth to the customisation than we previously thought, although it is a little worrying to think that it's something that could be bypassed with an in-game currency.
Upon launch, one of the biggest criticisms of Mortal Kombat 11 was that its progression systems were too grindy and that some of its rewards were hard to unlock. Let's hope that Mortal Kombat 1 manages to avoid this and that the Dragon Krystals don't end up being necessary for most players.
