Following the confirmation that new characters and Kameo fighters ꦚare going to be revealed for soon, tweets from 😼developers working on the game seem to have teased Reptile and Rain.

Ever since the MK1's big gameplay debut at Summer Game Fest, fans have been patiently waiting for the announcement of the first Kombat Kast, something that was rewarded earlier this week with the . Following that news, , and it seems that some recent tweets might be hinting at who's up next.

The first hint comes from Ed Boon himself, who has long been known for teasing on Twitter. , "...the phone rings. It's Vicky calling....", which is an unsubtle reference to Vicki Waiting, a song from Prince. For those who don't know, Rain was actually designed around Prince (hence the purple colour and focus on water abilities), which means that this is likely a reference to him.

It's worth covering ourselves here by saying that Boon is known for trolling his Twitter audience and teasing them with reveals that don't come to pass, especially when it comes to highly-requested characters like Rain, Smoke, and Mileena. With that in mind, it's possible that Boon is just trolling again, but we're hopeful that Rain will make an appearance in the game somewhere.

, the community manager at Warner Bros. Games. Taylor retweeted Boon's tweet about a new character reveal, saying, "…and it’s gonna melt faces". This, of course, led to a bunch of speculation about who Taylor could be teasing, leading him to quickly say that it wasn't a specific tease for any character.

That being said, it does still seem like a purposeful hint from Taylor, and there's one character who fits the bill better than anyone else - Reptile. Reptile's main gimmick is being able to spit acid, something that he's used many times in the past to "melt faces", making it seem like a sly reference to him.

Interestingly, a big Mortal Kombat 1 roster leak✱ that happened last month actually suggested that Reptile was part of the game's roster, which would line up with the tease here. It sadly didn't mention Rain being playable, though, so it seems more likely that he's going to be one of the game's Kameo characters.
