The official Twitter account has teased incoming news on , using a video of a clock to announce that "it is almost time".We've known for a couple of months now that the next game from NetherRealm Studios is Mortal Kombat 12 thanks to a Warner Bros. earnings call casually mentioning that it 🐠wasꦐ coming this year, but we've still been waiting for an official reveal from Ed Boon's studio. Last week, the𒅌 studio released its first t🍸easer, which showed a single grain of sand falling and then exploding, and now it's released another clip that hints at a full reveal soon. , a video was shared with the caption, "It is almost time". The video shows a close-up of a ticking clock that goes over the numbers, nine, ten, and 11. It starts to get to the number 12 (obviously teasing Mortal Kombat 12) before suddenly exploding and then going all the way back to square one. There are also a bunch of images shown in the back of the clock that look like the universe moving by, which is sඣure to lead to more rampant overanalysis of still images.
There are several possible meanings behind the clock. The first is a pretty obvious one - the timeline is being reset thanks to the events of Mortal Kombat 11 and the Aftermath DLC, and this new game will either reboot the series or show what would happen with Liu K⛦ang's new universe. The second is a little more boring - maybe the clock is just representing time passing and us having to wait for more Mortal Kombat news. Let's hope it's just the obvious metaphor for a story being about♎ time.
The clock skipping over the number 12 is interesting, though. It does seem to imply that the new Mortal Kombat might not be titled Mortal Kombat 12 like we all thought and instead might just be called Mortal Kombat. We don't know anything about the game's story so far, so it's not confirmed to take place in Liu Kang's new timeline but if it is, then it would make some sense to just start from the beginning again🐼. Again, we don't know that's the case yet, but if NetherRealm is going to keep releasing incredibly vague teasers, then you know I'm going to speculate.
Speaking of speculation, it's been suggested for some time now that Mortal Kombat 12 might be revealed at 🅰a PlayStation Showcase that's rumoured to be set for later this month. It's possible that it will end up being ther💎e and that this tease is the first step to൲wards that.
