For those gearing up for more t🥃han ju𒊎st the bone-shattering, spine-severing combat in Mortal Kombat XI from NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros.Games, you will be happy to learn that ꦐthe game will continue its tradition of fea🃏turing a ton of the lore and stories that the Mortal Kombat franchise has maintained throughout the years.
In fact, in addition to new characters, we can look forward to young and old versions of our favor🦩ite characters, as the element of time will be a major a🧜spect of the game’s story mode.
At the Mortal Kombat XI , Creative Director of NetherRealm S✅tudios and co-creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, revealed that Mortal Kombat XI’s story pic🦹ks up right 💮after the events of 2011’s Mortal Kombat.
The prologue for the upcoming game was also shown at the reveal event, featuring Dark Raiden torturing the defeated Shinnock, exclaiming vengeance against “those that defile Earthrealm,” before decapitating Shinn💛ock. After placing Shinnock’s hea💟d on an alter, Raiden teleports away, likely to continue on his journey. Of course, as a disgraced elder god, Shinnock cannot be killed - at least not by Raiden.
As soon as Raiden departs, Kro💜nika enters the chamber to express to Shinnock that Raiden has “upset the balance of history” and that the “arc of theꦆ universe bends to [her] will.”
According t💝o Boon, Kronika has been b♏ehind the Mortal Kombat event since the very first tournament, with everything having gone to plan until Raiden intervened.
“... sheꦿ’s kinda stepping in, and she’s going to play tricks with time and introduce situations where old characters meeting their young🍌er selves. And it’s such a great story mode. We could not be more proud of this.”
With so many generations o🐼f characters having been a part of Mortal Kombat’s timeline, there’s no telling how big the story mode will be. Not a🍰ll playable characters have been 🦹revealed yet, but perhaps Mortal Kombat XI will follow in the footsteps of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in which the gam🔜e will include all pla🍒yable characters (and some new ones) from every previous Mortal Kombat title. We can hope, right?
Additional Mortal Kombat XI details are planned for a NetherRealm Kombat Kast livestream, 𓂃which will take place on Jan♕uary 30th.
