However, a large number of us are apparently obsessed with one specific series that has a highly anticipated sequel releasing in 2023. So even though there are a ton of games shuttling to the PS5 as soon as we ring in the new year, you can see where our priorities lie. Read on if you want to know TheGamer staff's top picks for most anticipated games coming out on the PS5.

Updated December 3, 2022: We missed out on some hopeful game launches for the PS5 the first time around. We've added these upcoming games to showcase more fully what we here at TheGamer are more excited about. The future of the PlayStation 5 is looking brighter and brighter come 2023!

Marvel's Wolverine

Yes, like most fans of the first game and its spin-off, I am very excited for Spider-Man 2. However, I'm more excited to see what Insomniac can do with Wolverine. In an era where it feels like every major studio is getting the opportunity to make a superhero game, no one has nailed the formula quite as well as the Spidey studio. That's why I was over the moon to hear Insomniac had been given the keys to Logan's video game world, and even happier to hear it will be a violent, more grown-up affair than what the studio has already done.

While I'm skeptical it'll actually be here in 2023, right now, nothing coming next year makes me happier that I own a PS5 than the thought of popping on some virtual adamantium claws and slashing my way through a superhero game I'm expecting to be very different from anything I have played before.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

While many will associate Insomniac with Ratchet and Clank, I immediately think of our favorite webhead. Marvel’s Spider-Man was an amazing adventure with an interesting take at a story we’re all too🐻 familiar with. We fought against a plethora of iconic villains and all of the plots in the game haven’t been featured in any of the Sony or MCU movies.

Ending the game with Miles Morales also getting his spider-powers was a pleasant surprise, and I can’t wait to see how they bring in Venom in the sequel. With In💟somniac also developing a Wolverine game, it’ll be interesting if the studio will ever develop any cross adventures with the heroes.

Season: A Letter to the Future

Season A Letter to the Future still

Though most every one of my coworkers knows I’m a mega Halo fan (yes, these past few years have been very difficult for me, thank you for asking), I’m also incredibly fond 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:of slow-paced narrative experiences. Things that you would call “walking simulators”💃 are right up my alley. I love What Remains of Edith Finch, Tacoma, Firewatch, you name it, ꦦI’ve played it. Of all the games set to release next year on the PS5, the one that fits right into this category and that I’m most excited about is Season: A Letter to the Future.

Biking through💞 a gorgeously realized world taking pictures of what I’ve seen and listening to stories from the characters who reside there is a dream for me. I know I will spend hours just looking at landscapes, listening to bird calls, standing next to cows in open fields, and talking to 🔴every single person I run into on my journey. It feels like Scavengers Studios has made this game just for me. I can’t wait to play it.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

SuicideSquad

I think the last time I preordered a game was Batman: Arkham Knight, entirely so I could play as Harley Quinn. I main Harley in MultiVersus and both Injustice games. There was a sea of collectibles and merch at Gamescom, ranging from the crummily cheap, the outrageously expensive, and the explicitly obscene, and the only thing I bought was a mini Harley Quinn. You put Harley Quinn in a game, and I will play it. Those are the rules. And, unlike the upcoming (and quite possibly still going to be delayed) Gotham Knights, Harley isn’t just in Kill the Justice League, she is a central playable character✨. We are deep in the Quinnaisance, and I am here for it.

I have a lot of faith in Rocksteady after Arkham, but I’m not convinced this game will be great. I do expect, however, that it will be fun, and that’s probably enough for me. Then again, that was what I expected from Saints Row earlier this year too, and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:we all know how that one ended up.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

I can’t get enough of Spider-Man. I༺ spent half a decade reading every comic from the ‘60s to now, and even when things are dry or just… bad, I’m there. I’m a Spidey simp. So of course, I’m unbelievably excited to dive back into Insomniac’s world.

Miles Morales really stepped up the game with a bustling New York City that felt alive like it never has in the medium, with swinging that managed to improve on the first’s which I didn’t think possible. Insomniac has kept on impressing, and after Rift Apart, I’m not just excited to watch where Spider-Man goes, but where the studio goes. Insomniac is proving itself to be PlayStation&rsq🤪uo;s flagship development team.

Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16 Producer Says It Doesn't Make Sense To Go Back To Turn-Based Combat

I wanted to follow James’ marvelous mood with Logan’s future adventure, but I hardly believe that game w💯ill launch befo♎re 2024. So, the next very best option was none other than the upcoming𒊎 mainline entry in one🍃 of the most important series in video game history. Even when I didn’t like Final Fantasy 15 very much and haven’t played 14 (yet), I’m more than well-aware of all the praise around Yoshi-P and his team.

Add Ryota Suzuki, the combat director of Devil May Cry 5 (one of the best combat experienc♉es in video games, period), into the mix, and I’m all in for the upcoming “mature” story and Kaiju-fighting in Final Fantasy.

Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth Wukong - via Game Science

Journey to the West is one of the most fascinating stories in world mythology, so an epic third-person action-adventure seems like a fitting way to bring that to a new audience. Sure, there’s been plenty of adaptations before, including Ninja Theory’s post-apocalyptic retelling, but have you seen just how good the𝔍 trailer for Black Myth: Wukong looks? It’s quite possibly going to be the most sumptuous game you’ve ever seen in 4K. And given it’s being made by a studio in its home country, it will likely be the m🤡ost faithful of all in capturing the essence of its source material. I doubt it’ll see the Monkey King travel 34,000 miles in one somersault, though.

Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16

Look, it has been rough for Final Fant꧙asy in recent ye🧸ars.

Don't talk to us about it being rough for Final Fantasy fans, James. Try being a Halo fan.

I think we can all agree that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was pretty neat, and Final Fantasy 14 is in a great place; but when it comes to new, single-player, mainline entries in the series, it has been painful. That is why Final Fantasy 16 is so damn exciting. For the first time in a long time, I can confidently say that I believe in the team building the🦩 newest Finౠal Fantasy title. I think this could be it. I think the series may finally be able to move forward in a satisfying way. It has been too long. Now is the time.

James may have worried about picking the same thing that Axel🉐 did, but the heat will be on me for tripling down. Boring, I know. But I can’t help it. Final Fantasy changed my childhood and set me on the weird and winding path to games journalism. Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit 3 has delivered hit after hit with expansions of Final Fantasy 14. For years, I dreamed of how cool 💮it would be to see writers such as Kazutoyo Maehiro helm a solo entry, and of course, Naoki Yoshida serving as producer is chef’s kiss. This one’s the real deal, folks.
