168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Magic: The Gathering's widely popular Commander format allows players to construct decks around any legendary creature from across the game's history. There are nearly one thousand usable options for one's commander with some of these cards ranging from beloved and iconic to completely obscure. But how expensive are they?
While many commander options have been reprinted repeatedly and have been available in easily accessible products, this is not the case for all commanders, and some have garnered quite costly price tags. So today, we're going to examine the most expensive commanders in Magic: The Gathering and see just how much they cost!
The costs of Magic cards tend to fluctuate and change over time, so for the sake of consistency, we'll be using the market prices of cards according to at the time that this article was published.
Updated August 9, 2022 by Paul DiSalvo: When examining a card's price, there are various factors that can come into play leading to a card becoming rather expensive. In addition to being powerful, inaccessibility and a lack of supply due to a card's status on the Reserved List, a list of cards that will never be reprinted, can often cause a card's price to rise. For this reason, it's important to remember that these cards are far from the most powerful commanders that Magic has to offer and are merely the most pricey.
10 Tetsuo Umezawa: $149.99 🍎🐼
Currently fetching a price of $149.99, Tetsuo Umezawa is the first of many entries on this list to hail from the set Legends. As th🔯e name implies, Legends was the first Magic set to feature legendary creatures. As the majority of the legendary creatures from Legends have not seen a printing since their first appearance in 1994, they are quite difficult to come by.
Tetsuo Umezawa itself is a Grixis (black/blue/red) 3/3 for three mana who cannot be targeted by aura spells. This card's usefulness comes in the form of its second ability that allows Tetsuo to be tapped for four mana, destroying any target tapped or blocking creature, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:functioning as repeatable removal. While, Tetsuo Umezawa can keep op♔ponents on their toes through its removal, its price is largely from a lack of avail🔴ability rather than due to its strength as a card
9 🌊 ᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ Dong Zhou, The Tyrant: $159.99
Dong Zhou, the Tyrant's price tag of $159.99 is not due in part to its quality, rather its incredibly limited print run. Dong Zhou's only printing was in the set Portal Three Kingdoms that had a notable sparse English print run.
As a card, Dong Zhou is a red 3/3 for five mana that upon entering the battlefield causes a creature under an opponent's control to deal damage equal to its power to its controller. Lackluster and not the most exciting, this is far from the most powerful red card in Commander.
8 Yuan Shao, The Indecisive: $169.9✤9 ജ
Yuan Shao, The Indecisive is a mono-red commander that like many other cards on this list, can thank its sizable price tag to the fact that its only printing was within Portal Three Kingdoms. A 2/3 Human Solider with horsemanship for five mana, due to the sheer lack of creatures with horsemanship in the Commander format, Yuan Shao is effectively unblockable. In addition to being evasive itself, Yuan Shao, also can put opponents in difficult blocking situation with other creatures, as it prevents your other creatures from being blocked by more than one creature. This means that as creature with menace can only be blocked by two orﷺ more creatures, such creatures are 🦄effectively unblockable with Yuan Shao around.
7 🐓Lady Zhurong, ♚Warrior Queen: $179.99
Likജe Dong Zhou, Lady Zhurong, Warrior Queen does not actually see much play in the Commander format and totes the price of $179.99 due to having only been printed in Portal Three Kingdoms. Lady Zhurong is incredibly straightforward and is a 4/3 with horsemanship for five mana.
As horsemanship was an ability exclusive to Portal Three Kingdoms and effectively makes a creature with the ability unblockable, one way to get the most mileage out of this 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Commander would be to build a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:mono-green "Voltron" deck around it.
6 🔴 Lady Sun: $1🎐39.99
Another creature to have only been printed in Portal Three Kingdoms, Lady Sun is a blue 1/1 for three mana that costs $139.99. Despite her price tag, Lady Sun's usefulness is rather limited. As a rather insignificant 1/1, Lady sun can be tapped to return itself and another target creature to its owner's hand. For those looking to build a blue Commander deck, we recommend stronger and more affordable alternatives rather than Lady Sun.
5 🍃 Rasputin Dreamweave🍷r: $279.99
Another commander from Legends, Rasputin Dreamweaver is a unique Azorius commander that currently demands a pri🍸ce of $279.99.
A 4/1 for six mana, Rasputin enters the battlefield with seven dream counters on it. These counters can be removed at any time to produce a colorless mana or prevent one damage. While Rasputin can't have more than seven of these counters on it at a time, if Rasputin is untapped at the beginning of its controller's upkeep, an additional counter is put on it. Rasputin makes for a very interesting flicker commander, as through blinking it and causing it to re-enter the battlefield, its counters are reset, effectively providing a significant mana ramp. While this may appear to be a fun and enticing blink commander, there are far more reliable options with more manageable price tags.
4 ღ Sliver ✱Queen: $299.99
While Slivers are among the most popular five-color tribes in Magic, Sliver Queen is a powerful Sliver-tribal commander that happens to be sitting on the Reserved list. This blend of a moderately high demand from SLiver players and a low supply has caused this card's price to soar to $299.99
A 7/7 for five mana, at any time, Sliver Queen's controller may pay two mana in order to create a 1/1 Sliver token. While two mana to create a 1/1 may not seem like a lot, in a Sliver deck, this can go a long way. This is because Slivers are a tribe that functions as a legion, with most Slivers providing each creature of their type with various bonuses and abilities. This means that by creating a 1/1, this token will likely come along with various noteworthy abilities and will likely having increased power and/or toughness.
3 ಞ Hazezon Tamar: $309.99
Hazezon Tamar is a Naya token commander from Legends that is currently worth $309.99. A 2/4 for seven mana, Hazezon is168澳洲幸运5开奖网: capable of weaponizing one's lands, creating an amount of 1/1 sand warrior tokens equal to the amount of lands under its owner's control.
As these tokens are green, red, and white, they can benefit from effects that benefit creatures of any of these colors. Hazezon's primary drawback comes in the form of its ability that states that when Hazezon leaves the battlefield, all Sand Warriors are exiled.
2 𝔉 Angus Mackenzie: $349.99
Another commander from Legends on this list, Angus Mackenzie is one of the most iconic and widely played Commander♍s on this ꦜlist despite his staggering price of $349.99.
A Bant 2/2 for three mana, Angus Mackenzie has an activated ability that allows it to tap, preventing all combat damage that would be dealt in a given turn at the cost of three mana. This ability makes Angus Mackenzie the most optimal commander choice to spearhead a deck of th✱e polarizing "🦩;Turbo-Fog" deck archetype, as it can be used to reliably prevent combat damage during each turn rotation and stall games.
1 Gwendlyn Di Corci: $419.99 🤪
The final commander on this list who debuted in Legends, Gwendlyn Di Corci is a simple yet effective Grixis Commander that currently costs $419.99. A 3/5 for four mana, Gwendlyn can be tapped in order to have a player of its owner's choosing discard a card at random.
While this is far from the flashiest ability that can sit inside your command zone, as this is a repeatable effect, it can be used every turn to thin an opponent's hand and deny them of potential spells!
