As you turn the corner and head into the final quarter mile straight, you’re overtaken by a car gushing smoke and flames. You hit the nitrous and your tuner stretches and contorts as the acceleration practically rips apart the fabric of spacetime. You blast straight past your opponents and cause a shockwave so violent it nearly blasts the spectators from the stands. I’m describing a scene from the 2009 anime movie Redline, but with the next Need For Speed reportedly๊ containing “anime elem💎ents,” I’m hoping to see something similar🌊 in that.

I have no idea what “anime elements” means, and frankly, I don’t want to. Right now I want to dream. I don’t think we’ll be seeing any spirit bombs or shadow clones, but with Criterion also working on the ಌracing series’ next installment we might see some more car combat à la 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. I would𝔉n’t turn down a Lancer 🎃Evo that could fire off a kamehameha, mind.

‘Anime elements’ could mean a return to the old days of slow-motion low camera angles as your car goes over a sick jump mid-race. Imagine the shot cutting as the screen splits into three panels, each capturing a different part of the landing. The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Need For Speed series has tried a few different gimmicks over the years, but a pure stunt racing🌳 ga♑me would be uncharted territory. Cars doing flips and spins, and drivers standing on open doors while their rides do donuts - basically Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater but with cars - would be stupidly fun.

Man in a car warping forward in Redline.

‘Anime elements’ could also mean rivalries between other drivers in the career mode, like a combination of the Blacklist from Most Wanted and the nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor - although under a different name though because 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:apparently you ca♑n trademark a game mechanic now. Seeing racers lock eyes as they go down drag straights or overtake each other on corners would feel very anime and very petty. I'm here for it.

Something I would love but reckon is too outlandish even for an anime Need For Speed is mid-race car jacking. Bursting out of your own windshield into the driver in front's backseat and having to take them out so you can steal their ride would be something else. Or maybe something akin to Gun Game in Call of Duty, but instead of getting a better gun after each kill you get a faster whip each time you get a takedown. It's silly, but this is my dream. Feel free to come up with boring, more sensible options in yours.

Redline ran over both budget and schedule due to every frame being hand-drawn, and the next installment of Need For Speed is pegged to have hyper-realistic graphics - a common promise in gaming these days, but also one that frequently causes delays. I doubt its anime elements will be its artstyle, but that would be sick, too. Realism is great and all, but it's not what this medium is best at, so it'd be interesting to see a Need For Speed game adopt a more comic book or even cel shaded style. Jet Set Need For Speed, that's what I've just dreamt up.

‘Anime elements’ could mean almost anything, that's why I'm so excited. I hope it means the next Need For Speed Will draw upon the successes of Heat and go brighter, bolder, and more outlandish. The series has already been inspired by Fast and Furious, so it's about time it borrowed from another medium. We've got plenty of serious racing simulators, now I'm ready for the anime arcade racer.
