Adventure Time is wonderful. It's silly, it's co💧lourful, and it’s dramatically heavy when𒅌 it needs to be. It’s a series that has stuck with me for so many years, purely because of the joy that it radiates from its aesthetic to its tone. And I need more games like that, quite frankly.
But what is an Adventure Time-like? Well, it’s probably not as big as the Souls-like genre (yet), but it has a lot ofꦜ potential, and some great examples already. Come along with me and I’ll introduce you to the genre I need more of in my life.
What Games Are Adventure Time-Likes?
Adventure Time-likes lean heavily into the visuals of the show, but maintaining the humour is a key element, too. One example that nails both is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:OlliOlli World - a stylish follow-up to the minimalistic OlliOlli skateboarding platform🅠ers. This game… I mean, look at it, look at Adventure Time, then look at it again. You see what I mean?
But the humour in OlliOlli World 🌊is just so reminiscent of Adventure Time, too - you have nonsense characters, silly little guys, and strange phrases and lingo that we just don’t question. It’s one of those games that could have seen a Finn outfit appear as a crossover, and you’d barely notice that it didn’t belong in the base game alrꦕeady. Okay, actually, shredding through the Land of Ooo would have been pretty sick, dude.
Imꦆportant note here꧅, please play OlliOlli World. That is all.
Another game that summons the Adventure Time style but strikes a more serious tone is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons of Hinterberg. Once again leaning towards bright, cel-shaded colours, this game sees you take the role of Luisa, an adventurer who arrives in a small Austrian town that’s become a tourist attraction for adv💯enturers globally due to the mysterious dungeons and m🐲onsters that have appeared in the region.
While Dungeons of Hinterberg certainly has some humour ready to go, it’s more focused on the sense of adventure, the struggles of Luisa’s mind and her life, and learning to be happier. It’s a beautiful game, in every sense, and perfectly encapsula🔯tes the moments of Adventure Time that really feel, unexpectedly, th𒁏erapeutic and psychological in nature.
What Would More Adventure Time-Style Games Look Like?
Well, they’d probably look like Adventure Time.
Okay, that’s obvious. I think what I want to see most is games that give you a sense of adventure, freedom, and lighthearted joy, but are also noꦡt afraid to dive into more serious topics and approach them with an optimistic but ultimately realistic perspective. Something that gives you a sense of wonder while telling you ‘it’s okay for things to not be okay’, and giving you solace in that fact.
Sure, Adventure Time might seem like a🧸 show for kids, and on some levels it is. But it’s more than that. Kids need something like Adventure Time because it provides wonder and adventure, while also teaching valuable lessons. But adults need those things too - especially in the world nowadays, we need to be given a sense of carefree joy and to experience what so many of us don’t after a certain age threshold. But at the same time, we also need to be told ‘It’s okay not to be okay’ just as much as anyone.
That. That is what an Adventure Timඣe-like makes💙 me feel.
