Neverwinter is releasing another expansion that is connected to an existing  campaign, as the Avernus update uses the same setting as Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus.

Neverwinter is a Dungeons & Dragons-themed MMO that is set within the Forgotten Realms. Neverwinter receives updates that are known as Modules, some of which are based on D&D campaigns that are released in the real world, as part of a cross-promotional push for both the tabletop and video game. These have included the Ravenloft Module for Curse of Strahd and the Tomb of Annihilation campaign/Module.

The latest Module for Neverwinter uses a campaign called Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus for its inspiration. In the campaign, the players travel to the Nine Hells in order to face off against Archdevil Zariel. Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus is now part of the PC version of Neverwinter, with the new Avernus expansion. Avernus will be c🍌oming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game on July 🌳28.

Avernus adds the Avernus Adventure Zone, which the players can traverse in their infernal war machines. The Path of the Fallen campaign has been added to the game, allowing the player to experience Neverwinter's take on Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus' storyline. Players can a𒊎lso take on Archedevil Zariel herself in what promises to be an epic boss battle.

Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus is already tied into the events of another video game, as it's mean to act as a lead-in to the events of Baldur's Gate III. Wizards of the Coast has been growing the Dungeons & Dragons brand through cross-promotional tie-ins with the video games, which will be happening again later this year with Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden and Dark Alliance. It remains to be seen whether the Icewind Dale adventure will be referenced in Neverwinter, as there is already 🍌an official campaign set in the region within the game.
