Those unimpressed by the digital makeover that the cast of Final Fantasy VII received in Final Fantasy VII Remake can return to the days of blocky polygonal sprites🐬 with a new series of figures ꧅that is being released by Square Enix.

The visuals in Final Fantasy VII have aged poorly and it's easily the worst of the original PlayStation Final Fantasy games in terms of visuals. This is due to the fact that Square Enix (then known as Squaresoft) were working with new hardware and experimenting with 3D visuals. The visuals in Final Fantasy VII were groundbreaking at the time and people in '97 were blown away by the incredible graphics. It didn't take long for Final Fantasy VII to start looking dated, though, as games like Final Fantasy VIII, Resident Evil 2, and Metal Gear Solid had far better (and more consistent) visuals.

Square Enix has released a number of Final Fantasy VII figures over the years, but these have given the characters realistic proportions or made them look like they did in other entries in the series, like the Advent Children movie. It will soon be possible to own figures that resemble the original blocky sprites of the 32-bit era, as is releasing blind boxes that contain polygonal versions of the Final Fantasy VII cast.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Polygon Figures 2

Square Enix is currently taking pre-orders for sets of eight polygonal Final Fantasy VII blind boxes. The seven characters that appear in the set are Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Reno, and Sephiroth. These are blind boxes, which means that the customer isn't guaranteed to receive every character in the set. A set of eight blind boxes can be pre♈-ordered for $64, with an expected release date of August 2020, but Square has made a point of noting in the product description that this date could change due to real-world circumstances.

This isn't the first time that figures like this have been made, as fans have been developing their own blocky Final Fantasy VII toys for a while now with the aid of 3D printers. The sprites from Final Fantasy VII may look dated now, but there are plenty of fans who still hold affection for the basic chibi block people that once starred in theꦜ most visually impressive game of their age.
