Zombie games are so plentiful these days that even 🍸at a dime a dozen, they seem overpriced. But Skystone Games' take on the zombie genre, , seems far more heartfelt than anything we've seen lately.

Undying, developed by the 𓄧indie studio Vanimals, starts off at a point of no retur🎃n: the player character, Anling, has been bitten by a zombie. As everyone with any familiarity with zombie lore knows, this means Anline will eventually turn into a zombie herself.

If that's not bad enough, she has a young son, Cody, who will be left alone in the apocalyptic world after Anling becomes an undead monstrosity. The goal of the game is simple: in what little time An🍰ling has left on this earth, she needs to protect Cody, teach him survival skills,𓂃 and find shelter for him.

Ensuring Cody's survival sometimes even means giving in to zombie urges as Anling slowly transforms into one oꦐf the walking dead.

The gameplay itself seems like basic survival mechanics: having to find food and water while avoiding and fighting off the und♒ead. But the emotional hook may just be enough to make the game memorable.

Protecting and teaching a child during the zombie apocalypse has been done before, and to great effect. For instance, Telltale Games' The Walking Dead had players taking the role of Lee Everett as he looks after the young Clementine. But Undying takes the idea in a whole new dir🐻ection by having Anling doomed from the get-g🔯o, meaning the only possible goal a player can have is making sure Cody has a chance, however slim, for the future.

Undying is set to release to Stᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚeam early access this year.
