If t𒊎here’s one genre in gaming that I’m a sucker for, it’s platformers - esp🍸ecially games featuring cute or likable characters, delightfully charming worlds, and whimsical music. Platformers have held a place in my heart since I started gaming as a kid on the Nintendo Entertainment System, was reinforced with Super Mario 64, and most recently reaffirmed with my time spe💝nt playing SpongeBobꦜ Squa𝔍rePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated and Skully - the latter of which is one of the most notable platformers I've played in recent memory. And while I have an appreciation for being able to play platformers while on-💧the-go with my Nintendo Switch, the PlayStation 4 is my platform of choice when it comes to… well, platformers.

As such, it reallඣy shouldn’t come as a surprise that I jumped at the chance to check out🎉 the PlayStation 4 port of New Super Lucky’s Tale - originally released for Nintendo Switch last year - and while I’m sure the Switch version is every bit as good as say it is, I can’t♒ help but feel like the PlayStation 4 version is the best way to experience New Super Lucky’s Tale.

Good Ol' Platforming

New Super Lucky’s Tale takes players on a quest to recover the missing pages of a magical book known as the Book of Ages, which Jinx - a betraying member of the Guardian Order - tried to seize for himself and his cronies known as the Kitty Litter. Along with recovering the missing 🍌pages, Lucky is𓃲 tasked with collecting coins, completing challenges, and defeating Jinx and the Kitty Litter so that he can be reunited with his sister and the Guardian Order.

TheGamer’s Daniel Alvarez 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:reviewed the Switch version New Super Lucky’s Tale when it was released last November, and honestly, I don’t really have too much to add in the way of critiques or successes. The combat mechanics are fun and easy to execute; the boss battles, in particular, are enjoyable yet challenging; the vari🦹ety in level designs are exceptional; and even though time trials and the various level challenges add an element of replayability for completionists, the length of the game left me wanting more. That said, where Alvarez and I differ is his thought that the game’s “soundtrack [wasn’t] too memorable.” I actually thought it was quite delightful. In fact, throughout the playthrough, I found myself reminiscing about the good ol’ days of watching Saturday morning cartoons, with the game’s music playing a large part in creating that warm and fuzzy feeling.

(Platforming) Console Wars

But why do I believe that New Super Lucky’s Tale is likely best experienced on a console, besides the obvious difference in graphical capabilities? Simply put: the DualShock 4 controller. Generally speaking, the DualShock 4 provides a more weighted feeling in terms of a game’s physic⛎s and overall character control. Nintendo’s Joy-Cons are fine for the portable console, but there’s a fragility to them that makes playing platformers less immersive, with less-precise character control - a mechanic that is often pretty important in platformers; possibly the most important mechanic.

Controlling Lucky’s movement and abilities felt natural and well-executed using the PlayStation 4’s controller, eventually becoming second nature as I tail-whipped and double-jumped my way throughout the different 🍎3D and 2.5D worlds. I would imagine that the Xbox One controller would provide a similar experience.

The tru൩th of the matter is that no matter which platform you decide to🌠 play New Super Lucky’s Tale on, you’ll have a 𒅌good time. Solid ℱplatforming mechanics and a whimsical world add up to create a fun adventure that players both young and old will enjoy. The PlayStation 4 might be the definitive way to experience the game, but New Super Lucky’s Tale is a game that platforming fans will want to be sure to che🍨ck out, regardless of their pla🌌tform of choice.
