There are already numerous Dragon Quest games available for mobile phones, with most of the older titles being ported to smartphones. The announcement may be related to a remake of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Sky, as it's one of the most popular entries in the series and it has yet to receive to be released on smartphones. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Sky was made with the Nintendo DS hardware in mind, so it would need to be totally remade in order to work on smaꦉrtphones, with some new content added in to justify refe💮rring to it as a new title.

It's also possible that an entirely new Dragon Quest game has been made for smartphones. The simplistic nature of the way in which the Dragon Quest games work mean that it would be easy to make a brand new title for mobile phones that feels authentic to the series. The Dragon Quest games are old-school turn-based RPGs, which means that the fans can play the game at their own pace♔ and with only needing to rely on a few buttons, so the games are perfect for the smartphone format.

Square Enix has made a push towards mobile games over the past few years with mixed results. The Dragon Quest titles are some of the bright spots in Square Enix's smartphone library, especially the ports of the earlier games. If Yuji Horii is on board for creating a Dragon Quest game designed for😼 smartphones, then there is a chance that Square Enix might just have something s👍pecial on their hands.

The reveal event for the next Dragon Quest game will be held on June 3, 2019.
