NFTs. They’re the weird digital collectible that everyone is going crazy over, even though they largely amount to collecting JPGs with the tacit agreement that you somehow “own” something that can be copied by hitting the PRTSCN button on your keyboard. So far, they’ve been used to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:create a new line of Neopets, a "unique" version 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:of the Pinhead model from Hellraiser, and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:at least one scam that sucked $2.7 million out of the pockets of a lot of crypto enthuไsiasts.

Valve has wisely decided to sta⛎y the hellꦛ away from NFTs and blockchain games in general. Epic Games, ever defining themselves as the opposite of something, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:decided to embrace the blockchain like so many others.

But NFTs aren't just about strange pictures and even stranger games. A group of six New York Times best-selling YA authors recently decided to band together to launch their own NFT project called Realms of Ruin. The idea here would be to start a new kind of interactive storytelling by creating a shared narrative universe using NFTs. Anyone could write a story in this shared universe and mint that story into an NFT. The initial six authors would read and promote the best stories, with the best-performing stories becoming accepted canon. Realms of Ruin would get everything started by selling collectible NFT characters who would appear in-universe.

However, as reports, things didn't quite go as planned. Soon after the initial announcement, fans in the Realms of Ruin Discord started criticizing the project for basically everything. They argued that cryptocurrencies are bad for the planet (even though Realms of Ruin planned to use the somewhat environmentally friendly Solana blockchain, it wasn't enough to quell outrage from green readers) and many pointed out the questionable legality of targeting young adults with a crypto exchange when most of them are under 18.

As recorded by YouTube Dan Olson, Realms of Ruin took exactly five hours to go from initial launch announcement to shutting down the project indefinitely, along with💞 its website andܫ Twitter account.

"We are going to pull the plug on Realms of Ruin. We had hoped to use the fascinating and evolving NFT space to power a new kind of interactive storytelling world. In our conversations about the project, it had seemed so fresh and exciting, which is what drew us to the crypto/NFT space in the first place," wrote a Realms of Ruin community manager on Discord. "But what we value above all else is our community--and that's you. Your opinions matter and your concerns have been heard--and as a result we no longer want to move forward with this project."

Credit to Realms of Ruin for not trying to make off with people’s money, but also maybe notꦏ everything can beco♒me an NFT.
