If the Internet is to be believed, then the only reason to own intellectual property is to have that intellectual property punch a different intellectual property in the face. This, perhaps, is where Shakespeare ultimately failed his audiences, but 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is just the most recent iteration of this ti🎶me-honored 🤡belief.

Here’s the deal, though; it’s deceptively easy to go into a game like this with preconceived notions of what’s about to go down, and that’s a good way to get your pride handed to you with a big, fat L. Updated June 27, 2022 by Cameron Roy Hall: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl recently received a much-needed update, which added features directly requested by the fans. On the surface, this is exactly the kind of action we as fans are looking for. In practice, though, these new features aren't quite as robust as they could have been, given the circumstances. Still, it's closer to the game we all hoped for than it was on launch. Here's an adjusted dive into what you need to know before you try the game.

10 All-Star Now Features 💮Items

Catdog, Leo, Zim, April

The new update to All-Star Brawl added a selection of items that can spawn into the battle. Each item is based on something from one of Nickelodeon's cartoons, with the lion's share of the items coming from Spongebob. Krabby Pattys heal your health, the Fenton Thermos unleashes an onslaught of ghosties (think unidirectional Poke Ball from Smash), and Sokka's boomerang is just a boomerang.

Like any multiplayer tourney, these can be toggled on and off, or set to different spawn rates. Go big or go barren, that's up to you.

9 The Costume Selections Are... There 🐻

Leo Alternate Costume

Part of the new update was the ability to change the character costumes. It's an exciting feature, because it can add a lot of flavor to a game. In this situation specifically, imagine that flavor being the tiniest dash of salt possible. Everyone on the roster gets exactly one new set of threads and, for most of the characters, that meant minuscule color changes. Aang literally just gets a hat. Danny Phantom gets his colors swapped. That kind of thing.

Maybe, in a further update, this aspect will be fleshed out more. Right now, ꦜit feels like the batch of pea-green shiny Pokemon. Leo looks pretty cool, though!

8 🌟 Don’t Get Caught With Your Squarepants Down

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl - April O'Neil Wavedashing To Approach Helga

Listen, there’s always room for frantic button mashers at the table, but it won’t necessarily get anyone far in All-Star Brawl. While the standard one-two-three combos are still present, there are a few notable changes to th✅e formula.

Namely, attack animations: they’re drawn out so much that it’s as if every character is prepping their own personal Kamehameha blast. Getting 🙈caught mid-swing is painfully common, and the following invincibility frames are so brief that a second hit is inevitable if the opponent is cruel and savvy. If you want to win, then plan accordingly.

7 You Can Remap Almost ꦅEvery Action

The PC Master Race knew what they were doing when it came to controller configuration. The ability to totally remap inputs to better suit a player’s needs is something that needs to be more mainstream than it is. That's called accessibility, my friends.

Fortunately, All-Star Brawl agrees… but kind of quietly? While it's a quick press away from the character selection menu, it’s not a feature that’s made readily visible, and you may only find it in the settings while trying to see if you're still button mashing (seriously, there are better strategies).

6 Arcade Mode Is A𒊎 Bare Bones Campaign

Reptar in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl's Arcade Mode

Games like 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Soulcalibur and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Mortal Kombat have single-player campaign modes, where the endless gladiator-style matches are strung together by a plotline — even if the stories invol🔴ved are a bit lackluster. All-Star Brawl has a similar thing, called Arcade Mode, but it doe🔥sn’t bother with an explanation.

Instead, it just kind of happens. Before each battle, a text box appears that provides a single quip for each combatant, then the fight starts. What’s more, the♐ rewards for completing the robotic series of battles have no effect on the gameplay, and since you literally can do the same matches with a CPU from the Battle Mode screen, this addition feels a littl💜e repetitive.

5 Air Dashing? Oh, You Mean Triple Jum🐼p

One of the new features that All-Star Brawl added is the Air Dash, and it’s probably the coolest little technical change that they brought to the format. Air Dashing essentially functions as a unidirectional🐓 third jump.

It only works horizontally and was probably designed with🅰 the intent to aid players who’ve already fallen off the map, but it also makes traversal a lot more fun. Watching Toph defy gravity not only once, but twice, as she soars across the stage? T🌃ruly inspirational.

4 Dodging's Gone, Sorry

Helga and Aang in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

Dodging is not a thing in All-Star Brawl. It's a frustrating omission, not in the least because it can cause an embarrassing number of deaths. Instead, All-Star Brawl allows the player to strafe, which means you can move in one direction while looking the other way. It's a helpful feature but in no way equivocal.

But dodging isn't entirely out of the picture. In fact, there is a dodge, but it's just for Nigel Thornberry. It's his special move... because that singular, Steve Irwin-esque man is the only character in the roster with the canonical ability to not catch these hands. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:He's awesome to play.

3 🎀 The Characters You See Are Pretty Much The Characters You 𒈔Get

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Roster

When a player boots up Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, they are immediately greeted with approximately twenty playable characters. Among them are Korra and Catdog and Zim and, uhm, Powdered Toast Man. And that’s it. There's no one else to unlock, they're simply all there from the start.

To be fair, Garfield, Shredder, and Jenny (as in the teenage robot) were later added in, with the first two as free additions and the third living behind a paywall, but there are still no characters to unlock through completing challenges. This, more than anything else, leaves the game feeling a bit empty because having interesting 🍰unlockables can be a powerful motivator to explore a variety of gameplay modes. More characters, like are on the way, later this summer.

2 The Voice 𝐆Acting Is Best In 1v1 💮

Catdog and Spongebob in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

In the original build of All-Star Brawl, the fighters were silent, and it was 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:very, very unsettling. While we couldn't hear Spongebob, the studio at least heard us and patched the game. Now, all the fighters come with pre-battle quips, random asides, and more grunting than any one person could ever possibly be comfortable with.

Seriously, it added so much life to the game, and the fact that the studio listened is truly wonderful... but it's a bit of a mess. If there are more than two players on the field, the sound often overlaps and nothing is discernable. Also, none of the characters are balanced, so while Zim's battle cries are the stuff of legends, Leonardo's witticisms are barely audible. That being said, the narrator/announcer now has more lines and, honestly, they're hilarious. He comments on your usage of the pause menu and everything.

1 All-Star Brawl Fights To Be Different In A S♋tatic Genre 🧜

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Start Screen

It’s no secret that Super Smash Brothers is considered the quintessential multiplayer fighting game. Now, whether or not it should be the standard isn’t the question; it just is, and all other titles of the same ilk will be measured against it. All-Star Brawl, as seen above, tries to balance some of the expected Smash mechanics and format༺ting with their own blend of gaming.

It's a tough line to find, and there are certain spots that they could polish for the future. So if you're around for the familiar, go to the Battle Mode; aside from the dodging, a lot of the combat is pretty similar! If you're angling for something new, though, look no further than the Sports Mode, which is basically Lethal League with goalposts.
