Nier Replican💮t ver.1.2247448739 (let’s just say 1.22) was just released earlier this week, and finally, people have bee💃n giving this cult classic title the attention ꦐit deserves. Not quite a remaster, and not𝓡 quite a remake, it only makes sense that the version nu🎀mber is the square root of 1.5 because Nier Replicant is right in the middle.

But, even with all the new stuff, there’s a lot of subtle or straight-up hidden plotlines you all seemed to miss in Nier, so let’s go over them. Disclaimer: It's impossible to talk about this stuff without spoilers, so be careful.

10 💃 Shades Started Out Non-Violent

Nier Replicant V1.22: Nier Attacking The First Shades Right Outside The Village

We found out during playthrough B that most shades are just souls waiting to be put back into their bodies when Grimoire Noir and Weiss "fuse". So, of course, these Shades are non-violent by default. In fact, the first ones you encounter after leaving the village won’t actually attack you at all, it’s only after Nier attacks them that they fight back. Then, after Nier unintentionally ends up “stealing” Grimoire Weiss, who is half of their salvation, the Shades also start fighting Nier in hopes of taking Weiss back. This is also hinted at pretty strongly in all the endings after Ending A, and it's just o꧒ne of the many reasons that the Yoko Taro games ge𝔍t better with every subsequent playthrough.

9 Yonah Couldn’t Ever "Truly" Be Saved ❀

Nier Replicant V1.22: Nier And Yonah Just Enjoying A Day Outside

Here’s the thing about Project Gestalt, it requires a perfect Replicant as well, which is why most were made either before people became Gestalt, or right after before they had any chance of "relapsing". But, if you're someone like Yonah who is frail and young, relapsing can happen almost instantly. Once sꩵhe touched Grimoire Noir in the Prologue, her soul was turned into a Gestalt and immediately started to relapse, causing her Replicant to get the Black Scrawl. Then, once Nier becomes the “original” Gestalt aka The Shadowlord, he gets the World Purifica🌠tion Organization to make a Replicant of Yonah for her Gestalt to return to. But, the Replicant was made from the data of her relapsing Gestalt, meaning it will always contract the Black Scrawl disease. Essentially, this means neither Gestalt Nier or Replicant Nier can really "save" her since she’ll always get the Black Scrawl at some point anyway.

8 Emil's Feelings Toward Brother Nieꦜr

Nier Replicant V1.22: Emil Looking Up At Nier After Waking Up In His New Body

While Kaine’s feelin🐼gs towards Nier are pretty obvious after a certain “violent” scene she has with him, Emil’s feelings are a bit more subtle. This is partly due to how a specific line of Emil’s was translated in the original version of the game in the US. Both versions of the line take place during the King of Facade's wedding day. In one version, Emil talks about marriage, and Nier ignores his co🎶mment, in the other version, Emil talks about being a bride, and Nier mistakenly "corrects" him. This line (and an interview with Yoko Taro himself where he confirms it) is all we have to go on that Emil has feelings toward Nier. But, looking back with this info in mind, there are a lot of little things that point towards it as well.

7 What Magic Is And Where It ๊Comes From 🍷

Nier Replicant V1.22: Emil Fighting Louise, The Shade, With Magic

For anyone who hasn’t played the Drakengard games, this would almost be impossible to understand unless you dived deep into journal entries, fan wiki entries, and the lore in-game. But, the concept of “magic” in Nier actually comes from using the very same particles that started the White Chlorination Syndrome, created the Legion/Red Eyes, and what eventually le✨d to the Red Eye Virus in Automata. In-universe, it’s called “maso” or “demonic element”. This same "element" created Emil, created the Gestalts, and even created the Grimoires. It’s also the reason the Replicants and Gestalts are ev💛en possible.

The connection between Replicant and Gestalt is like a pact from the Drakengard games, where an exchange of souls is made, connecting two entities as one. But, since the Replicant is an “em𓆏pty vessel” only o𓆏ne soul is exchanged, and the soul (the Gestalt) can take over the Replicant, becoming a full human again.

6 Gideon's Arm And How It Got That Way 🔥

Nier Replicant V1.22: Nier Walking Into The Junk Heap And Seeing Gideon With His Replacement Arm

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:A lot of things changꦕe ♈after Part 1 in Replicant, including Gideon, the little kid from the Junk Heap. During the time-skip, Jacob ends up being crushed by some debris (thanks to Gideon). And, in desperation, Gideon ends up ripping Jacob’s arm off trying to pull him out. Five years pass and it’s obvious Gideon never recovered from this trauma, as the guy now 🧔has a metallic arm instead of a real one. You’re meant to infer that he likely did this to himself, as some way of atoning for ripping off his dead brother’s arm, but if you weren’t sure, Grimoire Ni꧋er (a book covering more lore) confirms it.

5 𝓰 Kaine’s Original Gestalt, Who Tyrann Is, And The Connection Between Them

Nier Replicant V1.22: Kaine's Shade Transformation, Concept Art Of What Tyrann Looked Like As A Human, And The Connection Between Them

It’s really difficult to remember that all of the characters you’ve become familiar with in Nier aren’t the “true” versions of them, well, other than Emil. Nier, Kaine, all of the townspeople, even Yonah, they’re all Replicants that have obtained self-awareness. So we know that Emil is still the closest thing to an actual human, and Nier’s Gestalt is the Shadowlord, but what about Kaine's? Whatever happened to her Gestalt? And who exactly is the Shade possessing her? After Ending A, it's quickly revealed that Tyrann is possessing her. But, who is Tyrann? This is again something much more elaborated upon in the Grimoire Nier book, but this guy actually has a past with Gestalt Kaine, her Grandmother Kali, and with Emil as well. There's a lot we still don'tꦓ know about this angry lass, after all. Basically, Tyrann used t𝐆o work for Kali in exchange for money and protection. So, it’s sort of poetic that the Replicant Kaine is who Tyrann ends up sacri✨ficing himself for, in the end.

4 ꦦ The Shadowlord Rushed Things F𒆙irst

Nier Replicant V1.22: The Cutscene Where The Shadowlord Kidnaps Replicant Yonah

The reason the end of Nier is so nihilistic and sad is that once the Shadowlord is dead, that's it for humanity. It's over, all 🎐that's left are the androids and machines, thousands of years into th🎐e future. To be frank, 🦄the Gestalt Project got so screwed over in so m🍃any different ways. For one, Replicant Nier woke up Weiss before he was ready, giving the book Amnesia. Then, Replicant Nier goes on this crusade killing Shades, all the while unaware that what he’s killing are the souls of people and that this will only cause more people to become afflicted with the Black Scrawl. Finally, the Shadowlord got tired of waiting for humanity to come back and cure Yonah’s Black Scrawl affliction, so he took matters into his own hands. If the Shadowlord had just waited a bit longer, it’s very possible that Project Gestalt would’ve been a success, and the recovered humans would have found a cure for Yonah.

3 😼 What About The Ten Other Grimoires?

Nier Replicant V1.22: Grimoire Weiss In His Magical Slumber

If it was just Grimoire Weiss and Noir, it woul🐎d make sense that one would separate the soul from the body and the other would reunite them, but there are apparently eleven other Grimoires! In the short story “And Then There Were None” also found in Grimoire Nier, it explains how these books forced Gestalts into them in order to become "Grimoires".

But, then, what is the function of the other boo✤ks, and where did they go? We see one of them in-game, Grimoire Rubrum, but that's it. Where did they all go, and what were they made for? And, while we're on the topic, how did they "mass produce" Grimoire Noir? If he's a soul trapped in a magic book,🍎 how would mass production ever become a possibility?

2 The "𒊎Snow" In The Prologue

Nier Replicant V1.22: Looking Around At The "Snow" In The Prologue

When you first start Nier and get to the “1,412 Years Later” part, things are really confusing.  Thinking back on it now, why did the prologue specify that it was summer when it was obviously snowing? Well, remember, Project Gestalt was meant to be a method of avoiding the White Chlorination Syndrome, a disease in which you either become a mindless zombie (known as a Legion), or you turn into a pillar of salt. Well, now that we know that Gestalt Nier and Yonah were hiding out in that building in the middle of the WCS outbreak, it becomes quite clear that the snow wasn’t actually "snow" at all. Rather, it was the remains of all the humans in the city who had become salt, giving this prologue an even more nihilistic tone than it already had, and also helping to make it🅰 one of the most memorable locations in the game.

1 🌞 Nier's Contribution To The Increase Of Black Scrawl Cases Post Tim💝e-Skip

Nier Replicant V1.22: Nier Talking About The Influx Of Black Scrawl Cases After The Time-Skip

Remember how we said that after the time skip in Nier Replicant, the Black Scrawl only becomes more prevalent? Well, that’s actually Nier's fault. Once a Shade is killed or relapses, the Replicant body then contracts the Black Scrawl disease. Well, in the five years Nier has been searching for the Shadowlord, he’s k✱illed a lot of Shades. And, of course, at some point, he would unintentionally kill the Shades of the townspeople, leading to them “suddenly” getting the Black Scrawl disease. It’s tragic, but Replicant Nier is actually both the hero and the villain of his own story, which is a pretty unique position to be in.
