Nintendo seems to always strive to be family-friendly, turning down gory, violent, sexual, or adult themes in favor of cartoonish characters and cutesy the▨mes. There are certainly times that the gaming company will delve into more adult fare, but Nintendo is known for being child-friendly.
But this doesn't mean there aren't some unintentionally scary or creepy moments and characters across Nintendo's massive games library. There are many characters that are supposed to be lovable, 🐷friendly, or positive. They can still end up being scary for various reasons. Here are just a few of Nintendo'🔯s characters that are actually kind of terrifying.
10 Tom Nook
This seemingly-lovable character from 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Animal Crossing appears to just be a raccoon (or tanuki, technically) when at face value. What isn't there to love about that? He fits in perfectly with the other animal village𒁃rs in the franchise. But in reality, Nook is a capitalist dictator that holds your life and wellbeing in the palm of his furry paw.
Tom Nook controls the real estate of Animal Crossing, gouไging villagers of their hard-earned bells, oft💎en at exorbitant prices. As a tyrannical member of the 1%, Nook is a greedy landlord whose presence in town should strike real fear into you. Add in the fact that he utilizes child labor in his shop, and you've got a real evil one on your hands.
9 Bayonetta
We all accept Bayonetta and the world in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:her games as the fa💟ntastic entries into Nintendo's archives that they are. But, have you ever stopped to think about w🐓hat Bayonetta actually does?
This ancient witch has made a pact with demons to grant her powers born from♈ the in-game equivalent of Hell. From here, she uses her terrifying guns and whips to kill angels with horrific visages and collect their halos to buy even more deadly weapons to kill more angels. Rinse and repeat that and you've got some good nightmare fuel. Oh, and she basically killed God, too🐎.
8 Ball Guy
Whose idea was this thing? Forget Dexit — this is the real mistake that GameFreak made in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sword and Shield. This half-Poké Ball, half-man creature follows you around the Galar region, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:giving you items for free (a little unsettling) and ♌scaring children (more unsettling).
Just ask the little girl in Wyndon Stadium how she feels about this man ("A Poké B༺all monster!" she'll exclaim). It's unclear if this is a person with a mask or a hybrid creature of Poké-nightmares, but you wouldn't want to run into it in the dark either way. The mesh in its face implies its a mascot costume, but that doesn't make it much better.
7 🌞 Master Hand
Many people have probably played 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Smash Bros. without stopping to think about what exactly Master Hand is supposed to be. Why is this large gloved hand attacking you and throwing you around? Apparently, this monster is supposed to represent the creator 𒁏of the Smash universe (and ultimately the player).
It's never been quite explained why Master Hand exists, but according to the info in the games, Master Hand doesn't use its full power when fighting with you, and instead just toys with you for its own amusement. In the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:World of Light, we're supposed to side 🎉wi🐠th this thing? No thanks.
6 Drifloon
There are a ton of terrifying Pokédex entries across the Pokémon games, but Drifloon has to be one of the more consistently scary ones. This Ghost/Flying Pokémon is as unsettling aꦗs they come, despite its cute appearance with its little face and fun heꦜarts at the end of its strings (arms?).
Drifloon. That's r🍃ight — it uses its appearance as a balloon to kidnap children, carrying them away to who-knows-wher💯e. Furthermore, Pokédex entries say it doesn't like heavy children. It's a murderer and a body-shamer, all rolled into one.
5 Wr𝓡inkly Kong 𝔍
If you've never played168澳洲幸运5开奖网: Donkey Kong 64, you may have never ex🎃perienced the terror that is Wrinkly Kong in the stage lobby rooms. Fir🦋st of all, the fact that Wrinkly is a ghost is already upsetting. In DKC3, she was still alive. Now she's apparently dead, and her ghost is still hanging around.
Second, when you enter a lobby room, she'll come out of one of the doors to give you a helpful hint. But as a kid,📖 this large ghost p🍸opping out of a closed-door at high speed with a loud sound is always frightening. She's meant to be a helpful friend, but wow can she be frightening.
4 Tingle
This green-clad man with a goatee might be considered one of the most uncomfortable characters ever created by Nintendo. Featured in several 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Legend of Zelda games as a helpful pal, Tingle is actually frightening if you pay attention. First, he's a grown adult man who is obsesse♉dಞ with forest fairies and hunts them.
Second, he shouts in your face all the time with that horrible "Tingle, ♉Tingle! Kooloo-Limpah!" In the Wind Waker, he uses his siblings for slave labor. He says he was in prison in the Wind Waker mistakenly, but who really knows?
3 Batreaux
The Legend of Zelda franchis🎐e has actually introduced us to a few strange characters over the years. In addition to Tingle, the series features this character in Skyward Sword. Batreaux is supposed to be a friendly demon that desires to be human. He'll help Link in return for Gratitude Crystals.
But, imagine 🧜knowing that wherever you slept, walked, or enjoyed your life, a li🦄teral demon was living under your feet and that his demonic aura was attracting monsters to the town at night, even though he swears he wouldn't harm anyone. Once you return enough Crystals, he'll turn human and blend into Skyloft's society. Creepy.
2 Gengar
If you🍃 thought Drifloon was scary, you'll have a hard time with its ghostly friend Gengar. Often held up as the epitome of Ghost-type Pokémon, Gengar is happy to live up to the title. Pokédex entries across the eight generations prove that Gengar tries to curse, kidnap, and kill humans.
Its presence causes chills and unease, and it likes to suck the warmth out of humans, terrify them and laugh at their fear, and run alongside you pretending to be your shadow. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gigantamax Gengar's mouth is even said to be a door directly to the afterlife, ℱthrough which you can hear the voices of loved ones calling you in.
1 Giygas
When it comes to this 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Earthbound boss, there's no way Nintendo wasn't trying to create something horrific, because otherwise someone over there is seriously messed up in the head. This creature is worse than the stuff of nightmares, allegedly inspired by a murder scene that series creator💝 Shigesato Itoi saw when he was younger.
From the horrifying background music tha꧃t makes your hair stand up to the horrific visual display this eldritch abomination puts on, you'll be in a cold sweat for this final battle. Giygas is as disturbing as they 🎶come, ensuring you'll be on the edge of your seat throughout this fight.
