We'v𝔍e seen that Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky Kong are all in the game♎, strengthening the time travel theory, but a way to really prove that Donkey Kong Bananza is set in the modern Mario timeline would be to find out the main ape's age. When it comes to Pauline, Takahashi explains that he wants players to "start to puzzle out" why she's 13 for themsel𝕴ves,𝔍 while Motokura similarly claims that hiding Donkey Kong's age is "good fodder" for the theorists out there.

When it was suggested that Donkey Kong Bananza could be a prequel to Super Mario Odyssey, given that it was made by the same team, Takahaski admits that he doesn't want to ex𝓰plain it all right now, as he needs to "leave something for people to consider as they're playing the game".

Interestingly, we don't actually have a confirmed age for Donkey Kong at all, as he's been depicted as a never-aging entity꧂ ever since his inception. However, due to the sheer existence of Diddy Kong and Cranky Kong, we know that the DK family ages like regular gorillas, and if they share the same lifespan (which is around 35 to 40 years), we can assume that standard DK is roughly 20 years old, maybe 25 at a push.

Pauline is most likely a couple of decades younger than she was in Super Mario Odyssey, which would make Donkey Kong between 0 ☂and 5 years old in Bananza if it is a prequel. Yeah, I'm siding with the time-travel theorists on this one.
