2020 has been a great yꦜear for Nintendo in terms of 🤡sales, but there is a growing threat for the company on the horizon, as the upcoming holiday season will see the release of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. Nintendo doesn't need to worry too much, as it can counter the release of the upcoming next generation of consoles with a price cut for the Switch.

Microsoft and Sony are going to have an uphill battle this holiday season, as their latest consoles are launching at the worst possible time. The job market around the world has been devastated by COVID-19, and that's not likely to change by the time Christmas rolls around. As such, people are going to be tightening their belts this winter, and they won't be able to justify spending money on a brand new vide🙈o game console on launch day.

No one knows the price of the next generation of systems, but they're unlikely to cost less than $400. There is speculation that the PS5 and Xbox Series X could even cost more than that. There is also the cost of games and accessories (like additional controllers) to consider. The Xbox Series X has lost its big draw, now that Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021, and the PS5 currently only has Spider-Man: Miles Morales as the reason to buy the system on day on𒅌e. In short, it's going to be an expensive prospect to have a next-generation console under your Christmas tree in 2020.

Nintendo might seem as if it's not going to be able to compete this Christmas, but the current financial climate might work to the company's favor if it cuts the price of the Switch by $50 or even $100. By comparison, the Switch has a killer's row of games already available 🍰on the system, and there are a ton of cheap third-party options for accessories such as controllers. If Nintendo also threw in a digital code for one of the bigger games and a couple of free months of Nintendo Switch Online, then it would be offering an incredible deal, especially in comparison to Microsoft and Sony's offerings during the same timeframe.

There is no real reason to buy a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X at launch, as it's generally better to wait until they have more games and the system has a price cut or a bundle. A lot of people are go⛦ing to be hard up for cash this holiday season, and a cheaper Switch model with titles already available on it could make for a more affordable present for families around the world.
