The most recent issue of Famitsu magazine is reporting that the𓆏 Nintendo Switch has within its firs♑t year alone in Japan.
In terms of numbers: the Nintend♐o Switch has sold 3,407,158 units in Japan in the period from March to December of 2017, while the Wii U has only managed to sell 3,301,555 units in Japan since 2012.
The huge success of the Nintendo Switch over the Wii U can be attributed to a few different factors. Nintendo has finally abandoned the Wii branding and sent out a clear message over what their new console is all about. The Wii U was held back due to Nintendo attempting to keep hold of the casual market that had made the Wii a success in Japan. This resulted in an unclear ꦛmarketing campaign that led to many people believing that the Wii U was an add-on for the original Wii, rather than a new system. The gimmick of the GamePad didn't grab people's attention in the same way that the Wii Remote did. The Wii U had some excellent games, but its weak hardware ended up turning off even some hardcore Nintendo fans who found satisfaction with the Nintendo 3DS instead.

The Nintendo Switch has been clear about the console's nature as a hybr🔜id home/handheld system since the beginning. The ability to play high-quality home console games on a portable system resonated with audiences and helped to establish Nintendo as a dominant force in the home console market once more.
The numbers for the Nintendo Switch's worldwide sales that take into the account the 2017 holiday period have yet to be released, though the Japanese numbers suggestꦑ similar success stories across the globe. The Switch was touted as being the hot new ✱computer to buy over the holidays, even though it was generally more expensive than the other home consoles on the market (save for the Xbox One X.)
Nintendo pulled out all the stops with the Switch's first year, which helped to make it the success story that it has become. The release of some of the most well-recieved Mario and The Legend of Zelda games ever made certainly helped in this regard. The strong third-party support, as well as titles like ARMS, Splatoon 2, and Pokkén Tournament DX, has given the Switch one of the best first years of any video game console ever made. The ques♍tion of whether Nintendo can keep it up throughout the Switch's second year remains to be seen. We can only hope that the rumored January Direct lays out a schedule of games that can help Nintendo keeps its momentum.
