Though the combat of Nioh may be what it's known for, its incredible speed and combo ability separating from others in the genre, its use of Jutsu as a kind of magic system is an interesting differentiator. Both Onmyo magic and Ninjutsu exist - Onmyo focuses on more traditional magic while Ninjutsu focuses on more practical things.
Onmyo is performed through the use of talisman, giving it a logical reason for why magic is performed through an item rather than a mana system like others. These talis🌞mans cover wide ground, from buffs to damage and many other effects. But with so many to choose from, it can be hard to decide which ones will fit your playstyle best.
10 Elemental Talisman ♉ 🍷
Some of the first skills you'll encounter in the Onmyo skill tree, Elemental Talisman exist for each element in the game: fire, water, lightning, earth, and wind. And though weapons can have these elements as well as you get deeper into the game, Elemental Talisman offers a stronger effect and can be applied over a weapon's own element to fit the situation.
Each element has a unique status effect too, such as fire dealing recurrent damage or lightning causing a slowdown on enemies. As such, Elemental Talisman can be mixed to deal multiple effects to enemies at once, which will also cause confusion, depleting their Ki and causing them to take mo𝔉re damage.
9 Li🦩feseal Talisman
The Lifeseal Talisman is invaluable once you acquire it. Though it might seem helpful briefly, reducing an enemy's Ki recovery speed, the effect is quite pronounced, and in a game where Ki management is everything it becomes all the more powerful.
There's not much more to it. Depleting an enemy's Ki means they can no longer block or attack and if their guard is broken can even be grappled. Having their Ki recovery slowed then reduces survivability dramatically.
8 Kekkai Talisman 🧸
The Kekkai Talisman is another understated one with a powerfꦬul effect. Thꦯe description states it creates a barrier that purges the Yokai realm and increases Ki recovery, which is exactly what it does. However, removing the need for a perfect Ki pulse makes managing your ki easier with the Yokai realm removed.
And since Ki is so important in Nioh, the boosted Ki recovery is excellent too. There's not too much depth beyond what it states, but having a central spot that continually purges the yokai realm while also buffing you is a great double effect.
7 ꦦRejuvenatioꩵn Talisman
The Rejuvenation Talisman is interesting, as🍰 it has a degree of necessary attention needed to use it. The effect of the Rejuvenation Talisman is to give you passive health recovery, not unlike the effect to you by hot springs. However, the health recovery is slig💫ht, meaning it might not be best suited for fast and light builds.
Where this excels is in heavier builds, ones that can take a hit or♋ two without worrying. In this regard, Rejuvenation gives passive healing at a degree that is actually reasonable, recovering health at a rate actually beneficial to a build like this.
6 ⭕ Carnage Talisma🅷n
The Carnage Talisman is something of a risk/reward situation. After using it, you are given an attack boost at the expense of reduced defense. As such, it requires plenty of management and awareness to use since it isn't a simple cut-and-dry buff.
The defense decrease can be a lot to deal with if unprepared, but the attack boost can go as high as 40 percent de🎃pending on your gear. However, there are plenty of other skills that can counter this decrease as well.
5 🌠 Steel Talisman 🐻
The Steel Talisman, like it says in-game, grants a big defense boost. This is obviously beneficial in and of itself. The Carnage Talisman comes with an attack boost and defense drop in equal measure, a risk/reward play. However, they're applied as two separate effects, meaning the Steel Talisman can be used to immediately counter the negative defense, meaning you get a great attack boost with no defense penalty.

Probably the♑ most standout of the passive skills is Panacea Curefast. Unlike the Ninjutsu Medicine Man that increases your elixir carrying capacity, Panacea Cur𝄹efast instead increases the amount of health recovered from each elixir use. The benefit here is obvious, with any extra health a boon.
Like others, this stacks well it other abilities. Though random, the prestige abilities for elixir recovery build on this, and combining Medicine Man from Ninjutsu and a large collection of Kodama will increase the number of elixirs⛄ on you at any one time.
3 Guardian Spirit Talisman ꦿ ൩
There is a non-Onmyo Talisman in-game called the Moment Talisman that summons you're currently equipped Guardian Spirit to perform their unique attack. The Oasis Talisman is an interesting skill when compared to Rejuvenation. For solo play, it ca🐬n be argued that Rejuvenation is better due to being able to move and heal at the same time. Oasis has a more profound immediate effect, though requires you to stay in one sp꧋ot for a few seconds - difficult in a game this fast.
The real benefit of Oasis is in online play. It can be thrown down to heal while others🍨 are taking the brunt of enemy attacks, or used to heal multipl🐭e players at once. In this scenario, Oasis is the clear winner, letting one person play healer while others focus on attacking.
1 Sloth Talisman 🧔
Viewed far and away as the best Onmyo skill in the game is the Sloth Talisman. It works much like the Makibishi of the Ninjutsu tree, though this one can be aimed directly at the enemy, with even blocking not stopping its effect. What's more, it lasts longer and seems to have an even more intense slowdown effect.
Most powerfully though is that no one seems resistant to the talisman, meaning just about every boss can be slowed to a crawl. At that point, every move becomes simple to react to and massively reduced their ability to react to your moves too. There's a good reason why it's seen as the strongest skill.
