How To Get An Anomaly Detector In No Man's Sky

Anomaly Detectors are found by blasting apart Asteroids. It's that simple. Anomaly Detection Beacons are found in small asteroids.

All you need to do💝 is fly into an Asteroid Field and start destroying them. You can get all sorts of resources, such as Tritium and Gold, but they also have a chance to drop an Anomꦆaly Detector.

Anomaly Detectors are one-use devices that lead you towards random Space Encounters. There's a huge variety of encounters, some good, some bad, and some that are pretty much useless. They look cool though, so there's that.

How To Use An Anomaly Detector

Anomaly Detectors are quite easy to use.

  • Jump into your inventory and activate the Anomaly Detector.
  • The Detector will start scanning for its host anomaly.
  • Initiate your starship's Pulse Drive.
  • Your ship will now fly directly towards the anomaly, jumping out of Pulse Drive when you arrive there.

Different Space Encounters

There are many different space encounters that the Anomaly Detector can lead you to, including a Dyson Lens, a giant floating piece of Sentinel tech that drops Nanites when exploded and then sets your Sentinel wanted level to five. Other encounters include:

  • Asteroid Larvae - Engages with you when shot at, but cannot be killed. Not worth getting involved with.
  • Alien Trader - A random trade encounter that spawns an alien vessel with items for trade.
  • Derelict Freighter - The main selling point of the Anomaly Detector is the Derelict Freighter, also added with the Desolation update. These enormous ships have procedurally generated rooms. Ships have an interesting narrative that plays out over the course of exploration.
  • Jettisoned Storage Silo - A large floating storage container. Just blast it apart when you see it and it can give you an in-game resource or random item.

Overall, there are lots of different random encounters you can experience by using the Anomaly Detector. Because they're not too difficult to come by, we won't spoil what the other encounters are. That's all part of the fun.
