The ninth Expedition to come to , Ut🌜opia is all about helping the foundation of the same name rebuild a solar system. However, despite its warm and friendly name, the Expedition can throw some serious curveballs at you along the way.
The biggest of these is that you're largely restricted to performing actions at your base. Once you leave its boundaries, you won't be able to craft any resources, upgrade any equipment, or install new technology. This guide aims to help you 'speedrun' the Expedition, so you can leave your base safe in the knowledge that you'll be able to complete your tasks.
Utopia Expedition Format
As with most Expeditions in No Man's Sky, Utopia follows a core gameplay loop. This one is relatively simple given it takes place within a single solar system, and you won't need to hop with the Warp Drive and use up expensive or rarer resources.
In general, you'll head to a planet, seek out a location for a base, and then complete a couple of tasks that are relevant to that planet. These range from killing Biological Horrors to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:scaling a volcano, but ultimately they're not too difficult. Many tasks can be complete💎d anywhere, too, meaning you can cut corners and save time.
Total Resources Needed
Here's what you'll need as a bare minimum to complete the Utopia Expedition. Be mindful that you'll need to do quite a lot of mining for core resources, as they won't be readily available elsewhere.
Also remember that any crafting must be done within the confines of your base.

Expedition Phase One Tips
-
You can generally find your ship by heading straight forward in the direction you're facing when you first take control of your Traveler. Your ship should be around 1,500 units away from your start spot.
- However, due to not having any Life Support recharge items, it is probably better to just deploy your base right away.
- Keep your bases simple. Four Timber Floor Panels, seven Timber Walls, one Timber Arch, and four Timber Roof Corners will do it. You won't be spending enough time in them for aesthetic to matter, and you'll save resources.
- Unlike a normal save file, you can't use raw resources to recharge your suit tech. Only Life Support Gel and Ion Batteries will suffice, so we recommend crafting plenty of these while on the 'safe' planet.
We'd absolutely recommend building an Exocraft Summoning Station on New Kehille. You'll need to unlock it with Nanites through the Utopia Build Station, and craft it using 80 Uranium, 60 Tritium, and one Unstable Plasma, but once you do you'll be able to call upon the Nomad Exocraft on any planet. Trust us, you'll need it.
Other Phase Tasks To Complete On New Kehille
There are several other tasks from future phases you can complete on the first planet, New Kehille. You'll want to do this purely because of its favorable conditions for survival, such as a lack of Sentinels generally floating about.
Phase Two |
|
Albumen Spawn |
Find five Albumen Pearls from Humming Sacs found underground. There are plenty of caves on New Kehille that will negate the instant Wanted le꧂vel from Sentinels. |
Companionship |
Adopt a companion by feeding an animal some Creature Pellets, crafted in your inventory from Carbon. |
Phase Three |
|
Fauna Marine |
Once you have your Analysis Visor, find a🗹 large body of water and scan for underwate𒁏r creatures. |
Pearls Of Wisdom |
You can harvest Living Pearls in large bodies of water. |
Local Delicacies |
Craft the Haz-Mat Gauntlet, a reward for completing Albumen Spawn. Refine a single Impulse Bean in the Nutrient Processor to make Bittersweet Cocoa. Harvest Star Bramble plants to get Star Bulbs, then refine those in the Nutrient Processor to get Pilgrimberries. One of these can then be refined further to make Pilgrim's Tonic |
Sentinels will still appear when you perform aggressive actions, such as open up a Sentient Plant (Albume🍒n Pearls found on the surface) or attack a Manufacturing Facility.
Going For Gold
Another thing you'll want to do on this planet is keep an eye out for Metal Fingers. They appear as a gold icon with three stars when using the scanner, and look like small towers of golden balls stacked on top of one another. Mining them provides a ton of Gold and Uranium.
One set of Fingers should provide enough fuel for your Starship to last the entire Expedition. Uranium recharges the Launch Thrusters, while you can refine the Gold into Pyrite to use on recharging the Pulse Engine.
Expedition Phase Two Tips
- Pehaelump is a much more hostile planet, and comes with superheated storms. Those Ion Batteries will come in useful here.
- Sentinel activity is high here, so when you see the blue indicator that one is scanning you, stop what you are doing.
- When you first arrive on a new planet, you'll need to 'find' the Utopia Outpost. This is always a Celestial Archive, a massive tower.
- You can drop your Base Computer at the small outpost the Phase guides you to. That way, you have access to a Save Point on hand.
- When attempting to scale a volcano, it will begin to erupt as soon as you get close. Place any items from your suit inventory into your Starship and Exocraft so that you don't lose them in the event you die.
- You don't need to install any suit tech to complete the task, only access the Exosuit Station.
Expedition Phase Three Tips
- This is where things get difficult. New Sesto has aggressive Sentinel activity, meaning they'll attack you on sight.
- To get around this, call your new companion and select Ride. In a weird quirk of fate, Sentinels won't attack you while you're riding an animal.
- You can also escape Sentinel attention by digging a hole in the ground with the Terrain Manipulator and hiding underground. After a countdown, the Sentinels should lose aggro.
- You can scan and build a base while on the back of your companion. You can also build underground.
- There is a lot of verticality on New Sesto, so never fully exhaust your jetpack. Use it at the very last moment to break your fall if you find yourself running off an unexpected cliff.
- As mentioned earlier, for Local Delicacies farm the Star Bulb and Impulse Beans on the first planet.
Expedition Phase Four Tips
- Idalth XIV is another High Sentinel Activity planet, but thankfully they won't shoot on sight. As before, just stop what you're doing when their HUD icon turns blue.
- However, there are giant worms (hello, Dune) on this planet that will try to land on you as soon as you get out of your ship, so make sure to move out of the way.
- The Hungering Tendrils will spawn Biological Horrors when you attack them, so climb on top of your ship to avoid them coming within melee range.
- Killing these will count towards The Cleanse, too, meaning you just have to show up to the building and access the terminal to move onto the next part of the task.
- This planet is a pain for verticality, so if your Personal Construction Area seems to be deep within a mountain, just fly around to the other side (or go up and over), land, and see if that pops the scan.
- This one will be a Monolith, so you can fly near and try to spot it from your ship.
Expedition Phase Five Tips
This part of the Expedition is the home stretch, and doesn't really take much effort. Build a base, add some creatures to the information bank, and follow the scanner to locate a gas deposit.
- If you can't locate enough creatures, check the skies. The flying creature is uncommon, so might not always spawn.
- The resource costs for building the Survey Device require farming. Cobalt is found in caves, while Magnetised Ferrite is refined from Pure Ferrite.
- If Gas Survey Mode shows No Hotspot Found, simply move the scan around and listen to the pips. The higher pitched ones indicate the direction you'll want to head — move forward, and eventually you'll pick up the signal.
- Remember to head back to your base so you can install the Hyperdrive on your Starship!
