After years of anticipation, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:No More Heroes 3 finally landed on Switch earlier this year. Gamers with a taste for punky anarchy, graphic violence, and more goofy immature humor than a season of South Park were treated to the epic third entry in SUDA51's wild, bloody series, and new players were introduced to one of the coolest, strangest experiences that any game has to offer.
But in a game that's so dense with content that they had to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:cut an entire scenario just to fit everything in, you'll be rewarded for having played the previous games with plenty of references, story beats, and character details that build on what came before. Spoilers ahead!
Spoilers For The No More Heroes Series
10 ꦫ Identical Intros
The easter eggs start right at the beginning of No More Heroes 3 when in the game's opening, we're shown an alien invasion of Santa Destroy.
After a short tutorial section, Travis hops into a robot suit and flies to one of the alien ships in the sky. When he gets there, he busts into the ship in a sequence that's a shot-for-shot recreation of the intro to the original 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:No More Heroes.
9 🧔 The Return of Kimmy Howell
In No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, there's an optional boss battle with a character named Kimmy Howell. She's such a hardcore fan of Travis that she followed his lead and learned to be an assassin; she swears to kill him as a way to express her love and admiration. But instead of killing her, Travis just knocks her out and tells her to find him after she graduates.
Fast-forward to the present day: Kimmy Howell is now a popstar named Kimmy Love, and she calls Travis to the stage at her concert. Before their battle begins, the two engage in a rap battle that references their fight from the last game.
8 A Load Screen Reference Within a Reference ♔ 🍨
No More Heroes mastermind SUDA51 has called himself a punk game developer in the past, and since 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:reviews have called No More Heroes 3 "the most SUDA51 game," it's no surprise that it piles on the musical references; one of these even doubles as a callback to previous games.
During load screens, the colors will invert and change to monochrome, which echoes single and album art for the seminal British band The Smiths. This particular reference was also featured in the original game - and, to top it off, the interstitial game Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes directly references The Smiths' song "Bigmouth Strikes Again."
7 𒀰 Who 💫is Damon?
The main villain of No More Heroes 3 is the corporate overlord Damon. He targets Travis throughout the game with the help of his alien friend FU - who seems to just be a detached head, one of the many 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:nonsensical details throughout the game.
Just before the final battle, when FU is defeated and it's Damon's turn to fight Travis, he mentions that Travis hit him, and that no one else has ever done so. This is both a reference to Gundam and to the last game in the series, 2019's Travis Strikes Again. During the events of that game, Travis attacks Damon to retrieve a powerful item known as a Death Ball, and Damon swears retribution. It only took an al🀅ien overlord to finally see his promise through!
6 Destroy Destroyman... Agai🔯n 🍌
One of No More Heroes 3's bosses is the intimidating cyborg Destroyman, but if you haven't played No More Heroes 1 or 2, you may not understand his dialogue before the fight. Destroyman offers to shake Travis's hand, and Travis refuses, saying that he won't fall for that trick again.
In the first game, Destroyman offered to shake hands in the name of sportsmanship, only to prank Travis by electrocuting him; in the second game, Destroyman repeats the same trick on Travis's apprentice Shinobu. It seems like Travis didn't learn from his mistake, since he caves and Destroyman electrocutes him the same way.
5 A Fa🎶milia🍎r-Looking Tree
No More Heroes 3 handles upgrades a little differently by introducing a skill tree system - literally. It's an actual tree living in Travis's basement that will open new skills throughout the game. But if you look closely at this tree, you'll notice it has a face imprinted in its bark; and if you've played the previous games, it might look a little familiar.
This tree is actually Dr. Naomi, the scientist who developed new beam katanas for Travis in No More Heroes 1 and 2. But how she became a tree is just one of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the many lingering questions that the game doesn't answer.
4 Henry 𒆙Barges In
In the true ending of the original No More Heroes, Travis is using the toilet when an assassin bursts through the bathroom door and prepares to kill him. He's saved, however, by the mysterious Henry Cooldown, who beheads the assassin and challenges Travis to a fight outside.
No More Heroes 3 calls back to this moment, but it's much darker. Instead of saving Travis, Henry is the one who barges in on him in the bathroom; and this time, he slic🅺💝es and dices Travis like sushi.
3 🎃 Takashi Mi𝄹ike in the Cemetery
Another callback-within-a-callback (SUDA51 loves his meta-references), No More Heroes 3 f♏eatures the film director Takashi Miike in a pivotal scene.
After Henry leaves him for dead, Travis is buried alive in a cemetery, yelling for help; when it seems like all is lost, a mysterious man arrive and lets him out of the coffin, then introduces himself as Miike. In the real world, he's famous for his transgressive work in movies like Audition and 13 Assassins. But in No More Heroes 2, it was revealed that he knew Travis's deceased friend Bishop, and this is why he's in the cemetery in No More Heroes 3 - he's there to visit the grave of their mutual friend.
2 🌊 Revenge For Ryuji ༺
If you complete 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:all of the bike missions in No More Heroes 3, you'll gain access to an optional boss named Ryuichi; if you accept the mission to take him on, the game will note that you have a history. If you haven't played No More Heroes 2, this reference might confuse you, but if you have you'll quickly realize what this means.
As confirmed by the official Twitter account for the game, Ryuichi is the brother of Ryuji, one of the second game's bosses. Since Ryuji's fight involved motorcycle combat too, it only makes sense that his brother would return to punish Travis and his motorcycle.
1 ꦉ Get In The Glastonbury, Travis
During the final boss fight, Travis' cat Jeane suggests that he call "that Glastonbury thing." The Glastonbury is a mecha robot, which was featured in an anime series in the universe of the games; in No More 🐭Heroes 2, the Glastonbury is also playable.
U🍎nfortunately, Travis reveals that the Glastonbury was decommissioned because it used too much 🔯dark matter, so this detail will remain for fanservice only.
