One of NVIDIA's many different artificial intelligence proje🐷cts (and by far the best one to date) lets you envision what your pet might look like it it were a meerkat. Or a polar bear. Or a hyaena.
In case you didn't know, NVIDIA has its own research group dedicated solely to research into AI, and that includes developing new AI systems and ag⛎ents w🎀hich can do some pretty neat things. although they take AI research very seriously, there's still no excuse not to have some fun with the products of their labors.
Enter GANimal. It's the name given to an AI system they developed which can generate a selection of images that are sorts of translations of your o🌜wn pet's face into what said pet might look like if they were other typeཧs of animals.
"W𒉰ith GANimal, you can bring your pet’s alter ego to life by projecting their expression and pose onto other animals," . "Once you input an image into the GANimal app, the image translation network unleashes your pꦏet’s true self by projecting their unique characteristics onto everything from a lynx to a Saint Bernard."
The tool works with the help of GANs - or generative adversarial networks - which are a kind of machine learning algorithm that generates authentic-looking samples (like photos) based on an existing dataset thereof. The products can end up looking convincingly similar to the original, sharing many (or sometimes seemingly all of its characteristics) despite still being .
Okay but the best part of GANimal is when it doesn't work too well. Of course, the first thing I did was try use the tool properly by selecting a nice normal mugshot of my cat to upload, which produced some satisfactory results (and some that looked a bit...off. See above). But immediately thereafter, the urge to input a picture of literally anything I could think of began to bubble within. And that's when GANimal really begins to shine.
This is of cour✃se not to abuse the good work done by these good people, but seeing the AI happily presenting 16 images of animal faces generated from a photo of my cat's butt has to be the highlight of my week. You therefore have to try it yourself, and you can (for freeജ!) . Just follow the 3 simple steps described on the page, and go wild.
The future of AI is bright.
