How To Start The Brush With Death Quest
The province of Cheydinhal is a bright and floral region, though it's filled with turmoil inside the walls. Venture into the city to find the Lythandas household. Enter the home and speak with Tivela about her missing husband.
He normally locks himself away in the art studio, but he hasn't come out for days. When she opened the door to check on him with an emergency key, he was gone! She has no idea where he ran off to and needs your help.
Take the key she offers and enter his studio. It's filled with canvases, paints, and other art supplies. The only point of interest within the studio is the oil canvas with a painting of a troll in the forest. Interact with the painting, and you'll be transported inside the artwork itself!
How To Defeat The Painted Trolls
The world transforms into a painted landscape, where you'll find Rythe Lythandas inside. He approaches you right away to tell you the tale of how he ended up here. A 
Thief accosted him in his studio and stole the brush of truepaint–a magical artifact that gives Rythe his edge. ಞ
The thief took off with the brush and created the Painted Trolls, which turned on their creator and killed him in the clearing at the far end of the painting. It's up to you to take down the trolls and recover the brush, as Rythe is not a fighter by any means.
Rythe will give you turpentine,ಌ which you can use to poison your weapons to better defeat the💃 trolls.
The Painted Trolls aren't much different than your standard troll, though they look a little more... painted. They have a , but will regenerate health over time. They also are leveled to match you and are vulnerable to turpentine.
There are six trolls within the forest, each of which drops a single portion of . This incredibly rare alchemical ingredient won't respawn and both restores and fortifies health and magicka. Be sure to pick these up!
You can use the Arch-Mage's special chest in the Mages Guild to duplicate the ingredients for an unlimited supply, buౠt only if you collect these materials here and now.
After defeating the trolls, you'll find the body of the thief in the clearing. Loo🍎k his corpse for the brush to update the quest.
How To Escape The Painting
Once you have the brush, you can backtrack through the forest or climb over the hill to reach the starting area. Speak with Rythe to hand over the brush, where he'll paint a portal home. You must🌳 go through first, lest you be tra🌜pped within the painted realm.
Leaving the painting will permanently lock it!
Back in the real world, speak with Rythe again to hand over the key to his studio and complete the quest. You'll be rewarded with the , along with a boost to your Fame stat.
