Bethesda has si🐓gnificantly tweaked The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's leveling system wi﷽th Remastered. Here's what they've done to it.

In this article, we'll tackle the basics on Oblivion Remastered's Alchemy. A quick down-low to get you motivated. Alchemy is, in fact, quite useful in꧃ The Elder Scrolls, and its fourth mainli꧅ne title is no exception. Don't let it daunt you!

Why Should You Practice Alchemy In Oblivion Remastered?

Early alchemy ingredients in Oblivion Remastered.

You'll want to snag the Novice Mortar and Pestle in the Imperial Prison Sewer, if at all possible. It's free, it won't count as stealing, and did we mention it's free? If you miss it, no worries; you can purchase these Alcheꩲmy essentials all throughout Cyrodiil, and they'll be hanging out in many dungeons as well.

Alchemy is invaluable in Oblivion Remastered. It's the best source of Potions, which can include Health Potions, Magicka Potions, Potions (a necessity if you want to avoid becoming a vampire!), and more.꧃

It's also great for providing additional sources of damage. Coat a weapon in a damage-dealing agent like a poison and watch the not-literal magic happen. Or, do you want to become invisible for a set period of time? Perhaps better-defend yourself, instead? It's all here♏. You just have to craft it.

While most Alchemy consumables can be bought in stores, many of the best are quite expensive. When you're practicing Alchemy, you're also building your levels up, and most ingredients are plentiful throughout the world, to boot. What's not to love?

Alchemy 101

The alchemy UI screen in Oblivion Remastered.

The first time you access the Alchemy screen, it may appear a bit overwhelming. You'll pull this screen up by selecting your Mortar and Pestle in your inventory, a🐓nd pressing the confirm button - whichever key that may be✅ on your chosen hardware.

If you're intent on performing Alchemy semi-frequently, it's a good idea to assign your Mortar and Pestle to your shortcuts.

In any case, crafting. Here's how it works:

  • Select an available ingredient. Your list of ingredients will be displayed on the left-hand side of the screen here.
  • Choose at least one more ingredient. If the ingredients can be combined to form a crafted item, the item will display on the right-hand side, and you can craft it.
  • Up to four ingredients can be combined, with increasing numbers generally leading to better finished products.
  • What you're looking for in all this are ingredients which share properties. For instance, two or more ingredients which have restorative effects.
  • The effects aren't a nebulous concept; they're listed beneath the ingredients list, and you'll see one of the four effects at Novice level Alchemy, two of the four at the next 25th Alchemy level, three of the four at the next 25th level, and finally, all four at Master Alchemy (100).

Better still, there are recipes found throughout Cyrodiil. Open up these papers, once you have stumbled upon them, for a list of ingredients that can be added in order to create a particular item. You can find these in Mages Guilds, in people's houses, in dungeons, and beyond.

Where Are Alchemy Ingredients?

A Sacred Lotus flower in Oblivion Remastered.

Everywhere. No, really. Just about every location in Oblivion Remastered is home to Alchemy ingredients. Mind you, many of these spots will involve thievery, and being caught means paying fines or going to jail. So, there's that little wrinkle. But ꦅif you don't mind the risk, go for it.

More "normally", you'll find ingredients throughout fields and inside towns and dungeons, such as mushrooms and plants. Various foodstuffs, both purchasable and pluc🤪kable from corpses, can make for Alchemy ingredien𒉰ts as well.

Head to farms for plentiful crops, which, evidently, the farm-owners don't even mind you taking. Vegetables and such can be surprisingly effective ingredients.

More select items, like , are common enough in dungeons and inside the houses of mage-tyep NPCs galore. Creature drops are good sources of specific Alchemy ingredients, and the looted corpses of enemies (especially Conjurers, Necromancers, and the like) can 𓄧net you rare☂r fare.
