168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Octopath Traveler 2 is almost eight different games in one. With an octet of protagonists to recruit who each have distinct abilities, the game can feel fairly different depending on which character you're playing as and in which order you come across them. When you're Temenos, a religious Inquisitor, you're focused on healing and magic. When you're Throné, a thief, you can think about what loot your enemies might be carrying, and sneak around to knock them out from behind before pilfering their pockets for goodies.
And once you get Ochette, Octopath Traveler 2 becomes a little bit like a simplified Pokemon. Ochette is a hunter, and at the beginning of her story, she pick💦s an animal companion who will accompany her on her trip. But as part of her hunting abilities, she can also capture creatures she faces in battle and put these former enemies to ꧂work.
Octopath Traveler 2's battle system is built around discovering your opponents' weaknesses. Each enemy has multiple boxes displayed beneath them and, as you land attacks, these help keep track of which are most effective. If you did a lot of damage with electricity, a lightning bolt will show up in the box.
Having Ochette's cadre of critter companions can be extremely useful because they do different types of damage. If you're wailing on an opponent and they're barely taking damage, you can go to the Beast Lore tab and sort through each creature and what they do. If you have the Red Betta, you can have it do its fire attack, and see how your enemy fares. Octopath Traveler 2 is about experimentation so it pays to have a bunch of captured animals at your disposal.
But "disposal" becomes the name of the game when your zoo fills up. Once you've been playing for a little while, each new capture will come with a question: which of your critters do you want this one to replace? Other RPGs ask similar questions. Pokemon asks you to forget one of your four moves so that your pocket monster can learn a new one. And, once you have six 'mons in your party, Pokemon automatically sends any new ones you catch to Bill's PC, where they live, somehow, in digitized form, awaiting withdrawal.
That isn't how Octopath Traveler 2 handles extra monsters, though. When Ochette captures a new monster, the one it replaced gets slaughtered and turned into food. This is all very abstracted — there's no 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Monster Hunter-style meal preparation cutscene forcing you to watch as your beloved River Froggen gets sliced and diced — but you get the pop-up asking you if you would like to "prepare one of the beasts you've already captured to make room for your latest catch," and another informing you that jerky will be added to your inventory.
I don't think this is a bad decision. Ochette is a hunter. We learn in her first chapter that she supplies the meat for her tribe of Beastlings as we play through a fight against a massive iguana. The Beastlings don't seem to farm and, if you live in a non-agricultural society, hunting or fishing are probably the only ways you're going to get enough food to feed a village. Hunters hunt. It's better that Ochette hunts to feed her community than just for sport. None of these animals are going to waste.
But it's bizarre, after decades playing Pokemon games, to be confronted with such a different take on creature collection. One that, to be honest, makes a whole lot more sense than sending a wild animal to live in a computer.
