A game that Pokémon fans thought they would never see has finally been announced, as New Pokémon Snap is coming to Nintendo Switch.
The original Pokémon Snap was released for the N64 in '99 and it belonged to the simulation genre, at a time when games like that were almost unheard of. The premise of Pokémon Snap involved the player taking photos of Pokémon in their natural habitat. Fans have been hoping for a sequel to the game for years, es꧂pecially in an ꦓage where cellphone cameras have turned everyone into photo-obsessed maniacs, but Game Freak never seemed interested... until now.
It was announced during today's Pokémon Presents event that New Pokémon Snap is currently in development for the Switch. The name might lead to think that it's a remaster, but the trailer (seen below, courtesy of ProsafiaGaming) is filled to the brim with Pokémon that debuted after Pokémon Red & Blue, including the starter Pokémon from Pokémon Sword & Shield.
It 👍should be noted that this game isn't being solely developed by the entities🐎 that make up The Pokémon Company. The credits that appear at the end of the trailer state that Bandai Namco is developing the game. It seems likely that Game Freak finally worked out that fans want this game, but have farmed it out to a different studio.
Pokémon fans have been asking for a sequel to Pokémon Snap for decades and it's incredible to finally see it happen. To many Pokémon fans, this game is equivalent to seeing Shenmue 3 or Final Fantasy VII Remake for the first time. The graphics shown so far are incredible and the vast array of Pokémon that have been added to the series since the release of the first game means that it can include tons of content. It can also be supported to include future generations of Pokémon through DLC. Fans have been taking photos of Pokémon in Pokémon Go for years now, as well as in the minigame in Pokémon Sun & Moon, but the gamers who weren't around during the days of the Nintendo 64 will now have a whol🏅e new worl𒀰d of Pokémon photography waiting for them on Switch.
