Once Human Has Me Asking: Why Is 'Human' Such A Common Word In Game Titles?
The survival✅ game is the latest in a long line of games to emphasize humanity in their titles.
That goodwill could be about to take a bit of a hit, though, depending on which side of the coin you land on, as players cant decide whether a door found in NetEase's free-to-play title is a reference to Remedy's Control or whether it's been ripped straight from the game.
"They really took … a lot … inspiration from Control"
UPDATEܫ: We received the fo🏅llowing quote from NetEase:
We really love the fan reaction when they find these little 'easter eggs' in Once Human - this is indeed a little homage to Control. Some of our devs and art designers are big fans of the game, we see that as a hidden tribute to the game we love.
Original story below.
The doors in question bear some striki♏ng similarities.
Both are giant metal security doors with the word "SHELTER" brandished across them. They both feature a yellow band displaying the shelter's maximum occupancy, and each features smaller pieces of text displaying the shelter model, shelter ID, and shelter protection rating. Each of the aforementioned pieces of writing are also positioned in exactly the same place.
The likeness between the two has caused some conflicting feelings within the Once Human community. There's a popular opinion that Once Human has Control vibes, with players sharing that when playing the game, "somewhere in Control" and that the telekinesis is "". A is that "the design is clearly heavily influenced by Control" and is, therefore, likely an easter egg.
Others, however, have felt that it's a bit too much of a coincidence. Once Human's door "looks like an almost identical rip aside from some of the text. Even the same font." , "Once Human and The First Descendant are just a bunch of things from other games, forced into 1 game." A third player compared the similarities to "seeing a bunch of AI art as posters on walls," calling it "kinda disappointing".
We've reached out to NetEase and StarryStudios for comment on the matter and will update this article should we receive a response.
