In this guide, we are going to go over beginner's tips to help you start your journey in Outward. These tips are mean𝓀t to help you gather your bearing before setting out on an epic journey. Additionally, this will not contain any spoilers for the main story.

Loot Everything

First, you should try to loot as much as possible. Unlike games like Skyrim, there is no penalty for stealing. Because of this, you can steal pretty much everyᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚthing that you see.

While starting off in Cierzo, you will be able to take stuff from your own house, as well as from around town. We recommend looting as much as you can; you will find items that can be sold, as well as new weapons and outfits.

Pay Off Your Debt As Soon As Possible

At the start of the game, you will be in Cierzo, and your main task will be to pay off your Blood Debt. This is part of the quest titled 'Call To Adventure', where you are required to pay off your Blood Debt with either 150 silver or a Writ of Tribal Favor.

We recommend completing this as quickly as possible, so you can continue on through Chersonese and explore the rest of the world.

If you do not pay off the Blood Debt, you will lose access to your Lighthouse in Cierzo, but it can be repurchased again.

To pay off your Blood Debt, you can collect items from town and in Chersonese to sell to vendors. If you choose to pay, we also suggest speaking with Helen Turnbull. This NPC will give you the quest 'Helen's Fungus', which rewards you with 70 silver after completion.

To get a Writ of Tribal Favor, you can speak with Michel Aberdeen and give him either a Life Potino or Bandages. Ban෴dages are extremely simple to get, so this can be done quite easily.

Bring The Essentials While Traveling

You will only be able to carry a certain amount of weight while traveling. The carrying capacity depends on what backpack you 🅷are using; better packs can hold more, allowing you to carry more items.

At the start of the game, you will have a simple backpack that has a maximum capacity of 25 pounds. This isn't that big, so we recommend only bringing the essentials with you. The essentials include the following items.

  • Food
    • Travel Rations
    • Gaberries
  • Waterskin
  • Lantern or Torch
  • Bedroll
  • Weapon
  • Bandages

After these items are in your backpack, you can start to collect other items. If you do reach maximum carrying capacity, try to clear up space and get rid of things that you don't need. For example, if you are carrying a lot of wood, that can be ditched since it's easy to collect.

Invest In A Larger Backpack

Fortunately, you don't have to manage a tight inventory the entire game. There are bigger backpacks available, allowin🥃g you to carry more items as you travel.

These backpacks can be purchased from merchants in cities but can be a bit expensive. Additionally, some backpacks are specially made to not get in the way while you roll. If you like to roll to avoid danger, keep this in mind while s🍌hopping.

Keep A Distance From Enemies

Cities are safe from enemies, but as you venture out into the world, you will come across a variety of enemies. When first starting the game, you will probably have a weaker weapon, such as the quarterstaff.

While this is good for defending yourself, it's not the best weapon to take on a group of enemies. It's totally okay to keep your distance from enemies and sneak by. If you aren't in the mood to fight, you can stay at a distance, sneak by, and then continue on your journey.

Sleep In A Bed

If you are traveling, you can quickly place an improvised bedroll and sleep on the ground. While in a town, you can place this bedroll on the streets, but we strongly recommend finding a bed to sleep in. If you own a house in town, you can sleep in your bed, but if not, you can visit the inn and rent a room.

Depending on where you sleep, you will get different buffs. For example, sleeping out in the open on the ground provides no effects, but sleeping on a bed in Cierzo provides the following effects for 40 minutes.

  • -20 Percent Stamina Costs
  • +5 Cold Weather Defense

There are differe❀nt effects for each city, as well as the different types of tents that you can sleep in.

Pay Attention To Your Surroundings

If you have looked at the map at all while playing, you may have noticed that it does not show your position. This means that you will have to rely on the landmarks around you while reaching a new location on the map. From time to time while exploring between cities, you may also find a sign that points you in the right dire♈ction.

Because maps don't show your location, it's important to pay attention to everything around you. If you lose your bearings while exploring, it's very easy to get lost. Fortunately, maps have several large landmarks, such as pylons, to help you get back on course.

Take Your Time

Lastly, it's important to take your time. It will take time to earn silver, explore, and obtain powerful weapons. This doesn't happen overnight, so you will need to be patient and take your time.

With that, you should know the basics to get yꦺou started in Outward. Explore Aurai and have ♐fun!
