Tips And Tricks For Playing Bastion
Although Bastion ha🅠s a simple kit, learning how to use his abilities effectively will make all the difference in doing well with him. Here are some tips and tricks for each of his abilities.
Bastion's Role
In both of his Configurations, Bastion has hitscan weapons, meaning the bullets fired will hit exactly where the crosshairs are aimed. This makes him especially good at dealing with flying enemies like Pharah and Echo, as they can b♍e difficult to hit with ♒projectile weapons.
Overall, Bastion works best when his team is available to support him. With his high damage and elimination potential, you can easily carry your team as Bastion, but only if your allies are able to play to Bastion's weaknesses. This involves things like damage and speed boosts, barriers to protect him, andᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ debilitating abilities and Ultimates to make it easier for him to secure eliminations, especially with his Ul✨timate.
Reconfiguring
Bastion is vulnerable while transforming into Assault mode, due to the 1.5-second transformation time of Reconfigure. Because of this, be careful where and when you transform. Preferably, try to transform behind a wall or ally barrier, but still close enough to the enemy to take advantage of the short six-second ability duration.
Because of the spread of Configuration: Assault's bullets, Bastion is perfect for taking out enemies with larger hitboxes like Tanks.
Additionally, don't Reconfigure as soon as the ability is ready. Wait for moments when the enemy is vulnerable or won't be able to run behind a wall, as they will likely do when they hear you transforming. Save Reconfigure for when you can burst through enemy barriers or health bars.
Grenade Bouncing
Bastion's Tactical Grenade can be bounced around corners by aiming at a wall, enabling you to hit enemies hiding behind cover. Be sure to aim it at walls rather than the floor, as it will explode after a second after hitting the floor or sticking to an enemy. The Tactical Grenade deals the most damage when it is stuck to an enemy, so aim carefully by bouncing𓄧 it off walls for 💖maximum damage.
Firing Artillery
Bastion's Ultimate allows him to fire three Artillery Shells anywhere he can target within the duration of the ability. These shells deal extremely high damage on direct hits, instantly eliminating most targets. Be careful when using Configuration: Artillery, as Bastion will be vulnerable to attacks for the duration.
For the best results, pair Configuration: Artillery with movement-disabling Ultimates like Zarya's Graviton Surge, Sigma's Gravitic Flux, or Mei's Blizzard. Additionally, the Artillery Shells can be effective when used against enemies trapped against a wall or corner, or being pushed there by Roadhog's Whole Hog.
Alternatively, Configuration: Artillery can be used to direct enemies where you want them. Because enemies can see where the shots will land, they will often attempt to escape the Shell's AoE. This can be used to your advantage, to intentionally manipulate where they will run, forcing them to run into either the second and third Shells, or an ally's Ultimate.
