A new trailer for Paper Mario: The Origami King has been released, and it h🦩as offered players an explanation of the new battle system, which will involve lining up regular enemies and creating a path for Mario to attack durinꦕg massive boss battles.

The Paper Mario series has consisted of games with turn-based battle systems (with the exception of Super Paper Mario on the Nintendo Wii). The battle systems in the Super Mario Bros. RPG games have generally involved mechanics based on timing, with the player able to deal more damage by pressing the button at the correct moment, offering the🎀 combat more of an action feel ❀than similar titles.

Paper Mario: The Origami King is using a different combat system from its predecessors and a new video on the official Nintendo UK YouTube page has revealed some of the details about how battles will work. According to the latest trailer, the combat system in Paper Mario: The Origami King is centered around a ring with twelve segments and five interlocking rings, all of which caꦯn be manipulated into lining up enemies so that they are close together.

The player only has a limited amount of time to do this, so they will need to be quick-witted in order to make the most of the enemies' positions. Once the enemies are lined up, the player can attack them using a number of different Super Mario Bros. power-u🐼ps, including a Fire Flower ꦰor a POW Block. The different attacks have different AoE, which is why lining up the enemies is so important.

The battle system takes on a different form whenever Mario faces a boss. Mario must face off against the wicked Legion of Stationary, which consists of giant art supplies. In boss battles, Mario𝔉 is placed on the grid and the player must plan their path towards the enemy in order to land blows, while still facing the same time constraints as before.

There are some fans who will likely be disappointed that the new battle system isn't just a rehash of the ones used in the earlier Paper Mario games. The new system seems like an interesting addition to the series and it's the breath of fresh air that the Paper Mario franchise badly needs 🎀after the past few entries were just sp📖inning their wheels.
