*Note that the rest of this article contains MAJOR spoilers for Persona 5 Royal.*
Twitter user pan-hime () is a dataminer who has been going through the Chinese build of Persona 5 Royal to look for cut and unused scenes. One recent discovery was this scene, which features Joker at school on Valentine's Day. An English translation of the scene was uploaded by YouTuber Faz and can be viewed below. Note that although the video features the date "4/20" at the top, pan-hime has clarif🐲ied that the date is jus🔯t a general placeholder and can be seen in all the cut scenes.
The scene takes place in Shujin Academy and opens with Ryuji talking to Joker in the latter's classroom, commenting on Joker's recent release from jail. Ryuji then thanks Joker, seemingly for the first time since the events at Maruki♚'s palace: "We were on the helicopter, then we returned to Odaiba without you..." Ryuji then looks at Joker with a despondent look, asking, "Having said that, is Dr. Maruki alright?" However, before Joker can answer, Ms. Kawakami warns everyone that class is about to start, and Ryuji drops the topic.
However, before Ryuji leaves, he gives Joker some n🐻ew🍎s regarding Sumire (who, by this point, has completely dropped her "Kasumi" identity), "Ah right, Yoshizawa asked me to say goodbye on her behalf. She said she wants to focus on practicing, so she will be leaving school. Yoshizawa... she's working really hard."
Ryuji then begins to tell the protagonist some related news about himself (starting with "I'm also...") but decides at the last minute that he'll share the news later, after exams, before leaving to go to his own classroom. Those who've🍸 reached the True Ending of the game will know Ryuji was likely referring to his plans to transfer schools to begin physical therapy on his leg.
After Ryuji leaves, Morgana - who is now in his typical hiding spot in Joker's desk - tells Joker that he found something in his bag. He then sneaks inside and pulls out an adorable pink teddy bear holding a heart, before sayin💙g, "This is probably for you. It's chocolate, I can smell it. But how did it get in y🧸our bag?"
The teddy bear looks exactly like the chocolate Joker receives from Sumire from the game's actual Valentine's Day event, impl🌳ying that the chocolate was fromও her.
The scene gives more context to what some have called Sumire's copout goodbye in Royal's official True Ending, explaining her absence in 💟the days leading up to Joker's departure. However, some fans have speculated that the reason the scene was cut was to allow gamers who had decided to romance Sumire the option to go on dates with her on Valentine's and White Day.
Regardless of t🐓he reason🍌s why this scene was unused, it's now available online.
Persona 5 Royal is available now, exclusiv💧ely for the▨ PlayStation 4.
