The Phantom Thieves are still stealing hearts around the world, as Persona 5 Royal saw record-breaking success in the west.
The anticipation for Persona 5 Royal was extremely high going in. The series had found mainstream success outside of Japan following the release of Persona 5 in 2017. Atlus has been pimping out the cast of Persona 5 in numerous crossover appearances and spin-off titles since its launch, with the biggest being Joker's inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
It seems that Persona 5 Royal attracted a larger audience than either Atlus or Sega predicted. According to , Sega discussed the success of Persona 5 Royal in a recent financial report. Sega is claiming that Persona 5 Royal saw record-breaking🔥 success in Europe and North America. The bulk of these sale♉s were digital, as physical sales were restricted, but this was likely due to COVID-19 and the difficulties in acquiring a copy of the game.
Updated versions of games generally aren't as successful as the original version of the game, as not everyone is willing to play through a title for a second time in order to see a marginal amount of new content. Persona 5 Royal promised a lot of additions to the game, including a brand new third semester full of story content. Not everyone was happy with the changes to the story in Persona 5 Royal, but many people were willing to put another eighty hours into the game, just to spend some more time with the Phantom Thieves.
The success of Persona 5 Royal is even more impressive when you consider that it's a PlayStation 4 exclusive. If Atlus really wants to see results for Persona 5 Royal, then it should port the game to Nintendo Switch and PC in the future. Persona 5 helped the series find mainstream attention around the world and Atlus should make the game available on as many platforms as possible, in order for the Phantom Thieves to truly change hearts around the 🌄globe.
Persona 5 Royal is available now for PlayStation 4.
